Really?
Thats surprises me, I would say it looks to be a better car on paper and that you could argue it has more heritage to it that the escort

Out of interest how do they compare in real life power handling wise etc?

My cosworth is 380bhp,but very laggy, think the p1 was standard 300bhp, it s a good car but very tinny, very grippy but I was just worried all the time about the bottom end, they are very fragile.

Boost delivery is total opposite between the two,Cosworth is laggy and you need to keep it up in the revs to get boost, and need to floor the throttle to get full boost.

Cosworth MT75 gearing/gearbox is awfull IMO,not sporty and feels agricultural!

Handling is ok,but nowt special,at the end of the day its a Sierra floorpan with a Escort body made to fit!

Impreza spools up really fast,as soon as you tickle throttle they are boosting, but once you pass half throttle you are wasting your time flooring it,as they hit max boost about half throttle and you gain nothing by flooring them.
A m8 had one re-mapped at GGR and they set the rev-limiter at 5000rpm!They said after that you are gaining nothing and just risking eng damage.

Impreza gearing is sporty, but abit on the low side, gearchange is very nice though.

Handling is very goodThumbs up

I felt exactly the same when I used to drive the wife's Type RA. Funnily enough it never missed a beat - although we decided to get rid before it got to that stage LOL

That's fairly on the cheap side at £3.5k to be honest. Good ones with decent mods and good condition go for between £5-6k. Wink

there was a Grey sapphire 2 minutes from me that went for £1400 although for the the money it came with a seriously

rotten chassis, crack dash (as per normal!) and a head full of bent valves, me and a couple of mates spoke about going

3 ways on it to maybe restore it but sadly wasnt worth it

For once Gramps is right, the 2wd are quite a weapon in the right hands/right spec. Done many a trackday in a scabby (but well set up) 350bhp rwd saph and it used to run rings around many more exotic machinery. Well balanced and predictable.

Ive driven a few 4x4's, lousy brakes, s**t gearchange and understeer. The T5 box in the 2wd is a Mans gearbox!! LOL

Best Cosworth i've ever been in is DC's (dave cockell hence the knickname)

Had it years, owes him mega stupid £££'s, currently a group A spec shell, Harvey Gibbs 580bhp YB with GT30 turbo, R & D 6 speed box, plated diffs, Bilstein remote resevoir coilovers, slicks, blah blah blah.

Currently racing it in the LMA saloon car championship, and doing quite well, depsite a massive fire at brands last year.

The only car that really makes you feel queasy after a few laps. Helps that he can drive as well, as in drive really f**king well.

Harvey Gibbs, there's a name from the past - used to work a few doors down from him and he was forever thrashing motorsport cossies up the road illegally.

Probably still does. DC gets his live mapped at bruntingthorpe nowadays. Still does an engine a season, but seems like water off a ducks back to him, i'd s**t myself cos of the cost, but this racing malarky gets under your skin.

A slightly more distressing Cossie video. DC's on fire at Brands. He was leading the race when the main fuel line fractured off the billet fuel rail, running twin pumps, it was p**sing fuel over the bay and when he stopped the car, he hit the fire extinguisher switch and accidentally flicked the pumps back on.... ooops. Took a while to put out but considering how bad the fire was, it was running again 4 weeks later. Even to this day, it still wears the badly burnt door mirror like a trophy!
