This morning I received a parking penalty for £70 reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days from Parking Eye, I've heard mixed stories on them as to what they can do. Are they one to ignore? or should I at least appeal it for the above reason
Cheers

Went shopping at Aldi last week, whilst doing so I had a heart pain that worried me, so I phoned up my Dr surgery and asked what I should do, they told me to go straight to my GP which is just up the road, I thought I had better not drive so I left my car in their car park. I ended up having tests on my heart and having to leave the car there for 2 hours whilst at the Doctors. This morning I received a parking penalty for £70 reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days from Parking Eye, I've heard mixed stories on them as to what they can do. Are they one to ignore? or should I at least appeal it for the above reason Cheers |

Don't pay it - go to somewhere like Money Saving Expert for the template letters you will need. |

Do not reply. If you reply, you will just make your life harder. Just completely ignore it and it will go away. That is unless of course its a council car park? I know we have a Waitrose here thats linked to council carpark and that one you would have to pay! |

Find out who runs the car park, as said if its council eg then you cant ignore it, it can go up by a lot, however if it is council and you ring up or write to them explaining your situation, and even offer them proof they may be cool about it and wipe it.If its a private moron firm just ignore it but dont ignore council run ones you could end up paying hundreds, doesnt the counils sometimes use private firms to run and manage there car parks? How do you go on with them then? A council owned but privatly run car park? ________________________________________ andrew315rawson@live.co.ukMoonstone phase 7 gti6 My Project thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=119992&page=1 |

How do you go on with them then? A council owned but privatly run car park? Doesnt matter if its council run by a private firm. If it is, you still dont pay it purely because the private firm have no powers at all to enforce the payment and even if they try taking you to court (which they won't), they will just be laughed out of the door. Council ones are obvious. They will have your councils logo all over the fine and this you need to pay. For your sake, the best thing to do is ignore it. Chances are if you ignore this letter, you will never hear from them again. If you send them one back saying you can whistle for your money, you've then confirmed you live at that address and chances are they will hassle you with red letters and demands for the money (all of which mean nothing btw). If you read the letter they sent you, read the wording very carefully. They are quite smart with their wording and you will realise that its not a fine and is an invitation to pay them. |

beez_neez_gt wrote: So why do the councils not get laughed out of court then? Because traffic wardens have powers of law which obviously you can't brake. Bit like a police officer giving you a fine. Private firms just sit on the back of this and try get people to pay using scare tactics such as signs, official looking fines and carefully worded letters. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye '99 - Sold |
