I just stumbled across this ebay item and compared to the Wössner these cost less than half of the Wössner ones. Now i know that all the highboost people only use Wössner items. I also have no clue what all the material abreviations mean, but according to the description of them they seem very good items.

So has anyone ever heard or read about these conrods before, i am actually suprised to see a German brand offer conrods for 13 year old french engines.

4340 or EN24 is the metal spec

personally I would stick to o.e rods or use Farndon/robson or carillo from a recommendation by an engine builder, also use carillo bolts.

So Welshpug are you saying that the Wössners are overrated?? Because all highboost build thread i have read Wössner items were used. And they are f**king expensive at over 1k €s for the 4 of them. Never heard of the other brands you stated thou

Wossner are good items, most of the high boost boys (myself included) run Saenz conrods and Wossner pistons just for your information.

However, the pistons seem good, so I don't see why the rods wouldn't be. Smile

Wossner don't do rods, they are PEC or PEC style, Chinese jobbies. You may see kits made up using Wossner pistons and other peoples rods (PEC for instance) Clue is in the price, for a decent set of four rods, expect to pay a grand. Skimp here at your peril.

My rods cost me £900 for 4, and that was back in 2009. The PEC ones from China were about £350 at the time and I was given the option. Needless to say I dismissed the PEC option as I wanted the best possible chance for the engine to last.

Should've got the PEC ones! They are perfectly strong enough to hold a piston still!

However, that engine has currently covered 8795.5miles before it got parked up and those were all hard miles so it's seen some action before hibernation. Cool

The pic in the ad actually says "max speeding rods" the Chinese firm.
Has anyone actually had a bad experience with these?

I believe Binca had a rod fail when he used the Wössner rods in his turbo build from what I remember! Thumbs down

Possibly a boost spike but wouldn't think that the Rods would snap from that. The Saenz ones are rated to 600+bhp

more the fact he was having fuelling issues which along with s**t mapping would cause the engine to

knock/detonate, this would certainly explain a broken rod

From what I can remember the mapping on that car was abysmal so would explain the failed rod quite well.

To be fair, I had a set of the PEC ones and they did'nt seem too bad, and in a forced induction engine where the revs are kept sensible they'd hold up just fine. I was looking for every last drop I could squeeze out of a naturally aspirated setup where high revs are the only option, hence me shelling out the extra for the Saenz items. When you have one in each hand though the differences in finish quality and weight are very apparent, I did'nt feel cheated at all and well worth the difference in the asking price compared to the oughtright cost of a rod failure.

Exactly what Jim said. Yes

Having seen the difference between the two items, I know which ones I felt more comfortable having installed when I was hard on the throttle. I think this is what makes all the difference to any kind if vehicle really, if you know everything is sound and you have no worries about anything in the back of your mind, you will totally enjoy the vehicle, whereas if you had a slight doubt about something it would play on your mind and affect your enjoyment of using it.

Assume nothing, I've seen numerous failures with these cheap PEC and not so cheap Catcam rods, always the same fail point and usually unfairly blamed on the bolts.

Mostly TUs, generally in not very demanding engines (ie sub 8.5k rpm); one of them was oil starved, but good rods would have just spun a shell before the rod broke and not wreaked the havoc of flailing rod and smashing the piston into the head. Wossner pistons are another story, poor oil control, intruders that hit chambers, valve pockets that don't relate to the valve centres and can rub heads off. You don't just get what you pay for, you get less than that.
