Should there be a noticable difference in the way the engine runs when the lambda is unplugged?

I'm trying to solve the cause of the car running rich.

Already replaced the CTS and Map sensors. Changed the lambda for one of unknown history about a month ago but still stinks of petrol and I'm getting s**T mpg. So I'm wondering if its fubar.

Car runs absolutely fine. I can't see any leaks anywhere.

If the car runs fine then it's unlikely to be at fault. Does it run fine low down with no bogging etc?

Yes runs fine, sweet in fact since a recent engine transplant. Ill try another ecu reset, not done that since swapping the other sensors.

Interesting as iv unplugged lambda, spark plugs are very sooty running rich and have what is called as bogging or low rev hesitation to go up to higher revs.

Took the car to the gym sunday morning and found my clothes were stinking of petrol when i was getting changed back in to them. I have done another ecu reset using the welly FAQ method[it was worth a bash!!] but I recon its still running rich but no bogging down at low revsDunno . Last time I left it running with the wife's white cmax behind it ,the front bumper of her car had a soot mark left on it. So fairly sure the plugs will be sooted up too.

I did smell fuel in engine bay once and there isnt a fuel smell inside inlet pipe that plugs into the fuel regulator. There is also suction at the top vac pipe plug too.

Do you have a lightened fly wheel because that might be the reason for the bogging not sure about running rich though?

Ill try that later on, however before i did all the other changes and tests the engine did cut out on its own accord after a few minutes. This may have changed by replacing the ICV CTS etc.

Will let you know later.
