Hey guys,

Set out to replace my aux and cam belt this evening -

Got as far as locking the crank pulley into place.

The Cam pulleys dont seem to line up though.

Note at this point, I've removed nothing except the covers and wanted to check everything was where it should be before I start pulling bits off.

I've got a photo up here:

http://sdrv.ms/W2CboR

That is the top front cam pulley whilst the crank is in place with a pin.

It appears to me that what looks like the recess for a locating pin in the photo is about 50 odd degrees counter clockwise to the hole on the pulley.

Surely if it was this far out, it wouldnt even run?!?

I am confused. First it was my sexuality and now this LOL

Dunno

Remove the crank pin and turn the engine over by hand and look at how the cam pulleys line up. You'll probably find that when they are lined up, the crank pulley hole will be out due to slipping within the rubber.

    Ok mate,

So no big drama then? Just locate the cam pulleys and remove the Crank pulley and relocate it in the correct position when im done?

First cam belt change Thumbs up

Personally solid crank pulleys are so worth the price for the added piece of mind,

^ Why? Not questioning your opinion, I just dont understand why.

Does what I said sound like a good option?

I've always drawn the line at replacing timing belts as I know it can f**k the valves, so Im trying to be really careful.....

Unfortunately I split with the missus and ended up with a 13 year old Peugeot and no cash, so Im doing this crap myself LOL

wont need to lock the crank, they don't move, do mark it before taking the belt off though, and fit a new pulley so you can get it 100%

    Thanks welshpug, appreciated.

I will need to put an 8mm locating pin in it to remove the

new pulley - Do you mean the actual Crank pulley or the nylon pulley?

I got a new belt, nylon pulley, tensioner and water pump.

Think Ill retire for the night.

Sorry for all the questions, but Im a total novice with cam belts. Gotta start somewhere i guess!

    Nylon pulley?!

Do not use the timing pins to hold the crank/cam when loosenin the bolts.

GTI-6 - I think you need to read through some of the FAQs on cambelt replacement before you go any further as you may end up causing some serious damage if you're not 100% sure on things. Yes
