I would just buy ad08s tbh.
Will be way better, PE2s are good but in the grand scheme of things tyres have moved on and they are OLD tyres now.Hence why michelin are getting rid

Dont think so. I had PS2s on my old car and when i went to get a new one because of a puncture, i was lucky to get it in the size i needed because they were phasing them out in favour for the PS3.
Think the whole idea of the PE2 was a smaller brother to the PS2 seeing as the PS2/3 only starts at 16"

Either way, shame they are gone. I really want a set but cant justify the cost at the moment and my T1Rs still have 4-5mm tread on them Sad

Ad08s or give up and get another wheel in a bigger size like what im doing, Enjouy added benifit of being able to fit massive brakes at the same time.
Personally im going ad08's in 205/45/16 when i wear away these tyres

That's exactly what I am going for, only thing is I have to buy 4 new, so that is £429 fitted!

Plus people that buy cheap tyres are idiots, they are the only thing that connect a ton of metal travelling at speed, to the road and then you put £20 of rubber on each corner to keep it all in check. Great idea. Normally the same people that will spend £60 a month on a contract so that they can have an iPhone (I had to get a rant in about Apple somewhere, as soon as I get annoyed I have to)

i hate this threadUnsure
The only advisory i got on mot this week was one tyre close to legal limit. I was hoping to have my other set of wheels refurbed and fitted with PE2's by now but it hasn't happened. Perhaps il just get one new tyre replaced with what's already on there......a trusty P6000Dunno

AD08s look good, but seem to be some comments that they are not that great in the wet?

What does this mean. Is the wet performance comment just in comparison to fantastic performance in the dry - i.e. are they good in the wet if you don't drive like an idiot, or are they just not very good on wet surfaces?

EDIT: From the EVO tyre test: "Interestingly there's some good data regarding the AD08's performance compared to a normal road tyre. While excelling in the dry, the Yokos were the most likely to aquaplane (bar the budget Zeetex HP103) in a straight line, and so poor in the curved aquaplaning test they only managed 54% of the speed of the test winning Uniroyal Rainsport." http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-EVO-Tyre-Test.htm

I know they're old tyres, but they're fantastic! Really are the best tyres I've used on the road for these cars.

I know things must move on, but to leave a sector (all older cars running 15's?) totally unsupported is dreadful (for us)

From what I've read is they are excellent in the dry and good in the wet. You can push them in the wet but they let go sooner than in the dry, obviously. I've looked at some videos of people taking them on track in the wet and I was surprised how quick they could still go around and push. I personally think they will be ok on the road for normal driving. I think their real down fall is standing water. In comparison to pe2 which I think score 92% wet they score 62% which I don't think is bad for an extreme summer tyre. Ill post them videos up later.

I have been talking to a chap at F1 Autocentres about my recent order of PE2s - some interesting information.

He initially emailed me saying that these were unavailable, but after a bit of to-and-fro with Michelin it seems that they are not discontinued indefinitely. See quote below:

Bit of a tricky one! Michelin have confirmed again today that they are still making these tyres but they can only see a forecast upto the end of March and the PE2 do not show on there. I think its going to be upto 8-9 weeks wait for these. I would be more comfortable refunding your order and trying Michelin again in 2-3 weeks to see if they can give us some sort of idea when we will see them. If your OK to hang onto the tyres you have for a while I think this is best.

I'll post up again if and when I find out more. Thumbs up

And buy some nice brembos off me Wink. Also Aaron I'll have a look at what tyres I can get in at work . Doubt we can get pe2's but worth a look. If you do increase I can get you some tyres in on the cheap Wink.

I expect I'll be able to get a decent tire for a while. But I know I will eventually need to up the size as I wont be using T1R's or similar tosh. If I cant find pe2's I'll look for pzeros or something like that I reckon. Armz, if you could, would you have a look at what top end tires you can still get in a 195/50/15? Smile

Thank you for your enquiry about the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2.

I can confirm that the 195/50 R15 82V TL PILOT EXALTO PE2 is due to be discontinued at the end of the month but will be replaced by 195/50 R15 82V TL PILOT SPORT 3 GRNX

The Pilot Sport 3's are due to be launched in March and we expect supply in April.

The 195/55 R15 Pilot Exalto was discontinued in 2004

Oh ok if thats the case then thats a godd thing at least.
Surprises me really as 195/50/15 is another one of those tyre sizes that not many new cars will come with.

No wonder they have been difficult to find lately - and "on back order" at lovetyres LOL I've heard sails for the HMS Victory are "on back order" there too, as well as arrows and bow strings for longbows used at Agincourt.

Surely that was a mistake from the writer. All questions were about PE2's, so wouldn't be worth mentioning when they last discontinued a tyre that I wasn't asking about?

Agreed, how silly of me to asume "Pilot Exalto" meant the PE2 in a thread about PE2 availability.

no, as the PE2 was/is still just about available, the Pilot Exalto is a different tyre, hence the comment above that it was discontinued back in 2004.

i.e these

not the more recent ones which look like this
