I really need help guys, i'm getting really p**sed with this problem. I have searched the symptoms on here and tried everything suggested.
So here goes. A few weeks ago I put my phase 2 6 back on the road after an 18 month spell of being laid up. It ran great for the 1st day but then on the 2nd day it developed a missfire on tickover and up to around 1500 rpm where it would clear. The missfire coincided with the clocks winding round to the 2 oclock position and back to rest. After reading about earthing problems causing this i cleaned up the earth points on the gearbox and on the chassis under the battery tray, Oh yeah the better was brand new. The missfire has been getting gradually worse and tonight it was running on 3 and didnt clear at all. I have added additional earths. 1 from the engine to chassis and 1 from battery earth clamp to chassis. No difference. I have tried an ECU reset twice. The battery light lights up with the ignition and goes out on start up. Ive checked all the fuses under in the engine bay, taken every sensor plug off to inspect and coil connector plugs.
Any suggestions guys. its realy got me down now. Thumbs down

Sounds coil related to me bud ? Unplug the injectors one at a time till you un plug one that makes no difference to running on 3 cylinders. Then change the coil Yes

Checked both earths on the gear box ? Crazy clocks is usually battery related ? But I'm not sure if recounted works off a coil signal ?

I had similar problems back around April time and was running on 3 and all it turned out to be was 1x lose spark plug and others covered in s**t. Since I changed them all it ran sweet. Could be worth checking since it's a quick and cheap thing to do.

I'll give it a try. The earth clamp on there now is clean and tight, but i'm willing to try anything. I may as well change the positive while im at it. I dont trust that rubbish screw on job.
Im also starting to doubt if the new battery is duff. Will get that checked out tomorrow.

Looks like number 3 coil was down. replacement will be here this afternoon so hopfefully it sorts it. Bizarrely though since running on 3 cylinders the clocks havn't been jumping around so maybe the coil breaking down was creating other electrical gremlins. confused.com

So a new coil sorted it.. runs on 4 cylinders, no missfire, no dancing clocks. All good. All i can think is that the dodgy coil was creating electrical interference which was causing the clock issues. Who'd have thunk it.
