Hi all,

As the title, my front left tyre had a lot of wear on the outside edge. I'm guessing a part of the suspension is fooked, possibly top mounts?

Can anyone point me in the direction.

Cheers

Could be as simple as your tracking is out.

The front left will always be the worst to go, low tyre pressure can also be a big problem. It's good to get the tracking looked at now and again, especially if you live somewhere like I do that has insane amounts of speed bumps everywhere. I might bill the council for the tracking next time

Yeh I had the tracking done a couple of times to make sure it was on and it's fine.

I do have a bit of clunking from that corner though so I guess it's that as well.

P bushes are new, so are droplinks, so are the strut and springs, balljoints look fine and no play. Only thing I can think of is the top mounts.

What ya reckon?

The thing is, if the top mounts are gone then the tracking would go in and out as the shock moves on the mount, if it is knocking though then you should change the mount anyway, because it has had it's chips and will wreck the handling

Yeh I think I need to change them. Any recommendations on where to get the top mounts? Full kit from pug or is a normal motorfactors a good shout?

Cheers mate

I can tell you the full one from pug is 52 quid per side as I bought some recently.
Personally I think it worth it given that the ones on my car are not "gone" and afaik have lasted 115k and 12 years

Sounds like its got to much toe in. Other than that its a camber issue, likely a bent hub or strut. Worn part wont usually give anything like enough camber

Hmmmm few things to think about then! As far as I know, it's got factory balljoints on. I guess I'll have to get it all apart and have a look to see if the struts bent.

you would notice that. We fitted them to a mates 306 (thanks ECP) and it was blatantly obvious as soon as we dropped the car on the ground.

if the front components turns out fine ... a missing or loose rear anti rollbar bolt will also create outer tyre wear.
