As per title, I am looking for a HDi and I am keen to see a Cherry Red example, which I am hoping to do a p/x on with my Focus.

Lots of history with it apparently, cambelt was done at 82k and the car is now on 157k. Can anyone tell me what the recommended cambelt change interval is on the HDi?

Also anything I can look out for(Idealy things that someone like me with very little practical mechanical knowledge of cars)???

Thanks in advance! Big grin

I believe off the top of my head the interval for belt change is around 80k, so with the current mileage you'd be looking at needing to get it done again. Yes

Yea I was thinking that tbh. One way of getting the price down a bit. Should have funds to get that and a service done if need be. Smile

Change the Crank Pulley at the same time. (Recommended)

Use a genuine one too, gone down in price in recent years. I tried a ECP one and last 7000 Miles and was half the price. Big mistake.

Yep the pullies have a rubber centre which wears that can lead to the timing hole moving over the engine timing hole.

if the one on the car is fine and aligns with the timing hole... why change it?

Why change the belt if thats the case? Thumbs down

If it fails it takes your cambelt and engine so why risk it! I'm sure when I owned my 306 Hdi I was advised to change my cambelt at 70K along with water pump and Crank pulley.

Save a little could cost a lotto!

I've got to agree here, it pays to be cautious and spend a little extra to avoid major failures.

Sorry to hijack, but a friend is after a cheap runaround and I suggested a diesel 306 - should we be looking for a DTurbo or an HDi? He wants an estate, plenty of clean p3s around for good money.

Non interference Carl?

No wonder so many people on the trader hadn't bothered changing them. When I got the silver Meridian from you for my brother, there were no end of them on Autotrader at 9 years old and 120k with no belt change.

not non interference, but as the valves are perpendicular to the pistons they usually just break the rockers.

the old 1.9 XUD used to just snap the cam LOL
