Mazda3 MPS would get my vote out of all these.

About as rare on the roads as the GTi6 too so some exclusivity there aswell Smile

Assuming they are pretty reliable too being Jap. Smart styling too

Ash, you're on fire. there are some really nice cars there. I'm a bit gutted that the MPS is a bit out of range. They seem mental.

Oh yeah the MPS is something silly like £400 a year tax LOL

Powerful, understated and Japanese but do you really want a 3 star car?!

R26 doesn't have the drama of sound & excitement but with the kit and in a decent colour like liquid yellow (it doesn't work in red, like mk5 golfs, or in baby blue), it is a stunning car. Again, lsd, recaros and brembos as std, amazing handling and 6s 0-60 - they are one of the few 5* hot hatches. They are quite rare too, only seen 3 ever!

How about a Subaru P1? Higher milers can be had for similar money. They look brilliant, esp if you get the gold Ozzies!

0-60 under 5s, Prodrive suspn for our roads and 4wd ability for all year round.

3 door and not covered in STI emblems - not the emblem you want if you're in healthcare!

What's the difference between the 225 and F1/R26 apart from the cosmetic stuff like seats and wheels?

better suspension set ups LSD and a bit more power.

That is correct, when i got mine back here and put it on the ramp to repair it the front suspension is very strange, brace bars everywhere and a bas**rd of a job just to change a cv gaitor i can tell you.

Mine has recaro seats (do they all), nice seats buts they dont tilt forward so getting people in the back is a w**ker to say the least.

All the same its a nice place to be, interior trim fit is a bit erm but other than that its all good.

Just bought a 225 f1 after selling that 250k hdi.

Some good and bad points.

Good on fuel, handles very well, nice spec, quite quick and very drivable standard.

Bad points, Plastic creaky interior. Parts seem quite expensive and wear out quick.

I bought mine fairly cheap as it needed some bits. But im very happy with it. ONLY thing that lets it down it the creaky dash / interior.

As i replace parts the car gets better. But I cant replace everything in one go because of the prices.

I have just spoken to Sky and the price difference in insuring a Megane is hardly anything (in the region of an additional £1-200 for the remaining 7 months and that includes upgrading from TPFT to comp).

Is a normal 225 that much worse? The extra couple of £k for a F1 or R26 is too much really.

My thoughts are that after having a Low boost, A 225 Isn't going to keep you interested for all that long, Where as a R26 or F1 has far more chance of doing so.

Yes early 225's were poorly built, eat injectors, rattle and genuinly s**t.the 225 cups were better and arent a bad half way house but if it was me i'd be getting 6/7k together for the R26

Again you know not alot.

Its not the power factor between the 225 and the F1/R26 its the drive from them, the suspension tweeks and LSD just make it that much better.

Also the R26 can be taken to around 260 bhp with a Re-map and would p**s all over a LB 6 Wink

Get some viewings booked op'er!

You'll enjoy experiencing the different drives, find out which one(s) you prefer and be able to tell a good one so when the ideal one comes along, you don't miss out.

In the meantime, download reviews from various sources and read other forums to find out what they are like to live with long term and may be find that extra special one in the classifieds!

There were some charged / boosted DC5s ont dc5itr forum that have spent the money making them much improved and so represent an even bigger bargain Thumbs up

Thats what I was saying, We actually agree with eachother Smile
I never mentioned power p**s pants Razz More that the others will more more exciting.
Where as a 225 is basically the same performance hes used to + slightly better handling and grip which isn't going to keep him interested is it.
The others are proper drivers cars in comparison

He seems to be the sort of person that keeps cars for a while (like me for example)
If you do that, To stay interested you have to make sure you're not getting something that will get you bored pretty quick.

For example.
I want an M3 but cant really get one now due to the insurance.
If I was to get 330i.
I know It would bore me within seconds and I would just want an M3 more..

The only reason you keep cars for so long is that you cant afford to buy suspension bits for them and are forced to wait until you can LOL

I agree with Ash, save the money and go for an R26 if you can.

I did and haven't looked back, definitely worth the extra over the 225. I started out by test driving a few 225's and was very disappointed, as I was expecting good things. So I was reluctant about my decision of choosing to go for a Megane, that was until I tried an R26. The difference was amazing, there may not be much of an increase in power, but as others have said, it's the suspension changes that really make the difference.

You must have dodgey seats, as mine tilt and slide forwards with no problems. Yes

Might be in contact soon about some work, if you fancy it? Nothing too major, just brake lines and maybe chopping out the centre box.
