what is the model or code for the 6speed box? I've been trying to get a cheeky reduced price Quaife ATB but need to know the model as "my man" is only finding be1,2,3 and 4 which apparently are all 5 speed.

Thanks

all quaife BE's are the same.

gti6 used a BE3/6 and later on were BE4/6

In laymans terms, what does the BE refer to for it to be the same?

In terms of a diff, would it make any difference whether it was mated to BE3/6 or BE4/6?

This may be a very stupid question, but I'm very wet behind the ears when it come to transmission.

QDF3H is the one you want.

As Mei says it's universal to all BE gearboxes.

There's some webbing on the case and it's supposed to be stronger. Apparently the ratios differ slightly also. Yeah will fit vehicles originally fitted with BE3 fine.

You will find markings on the case easy as that, The later casing's have some fin's on the end case under it for extra cooling, Better oil ways and a stronger support for the input and output shaft bearings, Bell housings the same pretty much.
Reverse gear went from Syncro to straight cut again as per 205 box's
