No, no bearings as such. However, the carriers and the head are matched. Yes

So I cant get a couple of carriers to prep paint and just fit to my head?
I have to remove the onesallreday on,
Prep, paint then refit them?

That's right, the head is line bored as is the mains in the block, so the carriers are definitely not interchangeable!

Well you guys were right, cam belt was too tight. Took it to my mate's today and we slackened it off a bit, the whining noise has drastically reduced. It may still be a little tight as there is still a little bit of a whine as the revs drop past 2.5k. I'll leave it for a week or so to see how it develops.

Thanks for the advice gents Thumbs up

It wouldn't surprise me if there is minor damage caused by over-tightening the belt. Hence the minor squeal you have now.

You'll need to throw money at the car. Not on parts. Just stand near your car and throw loose change at it, I find this increases performance for a short period of time

Only did about 100 miles with it too tight, so fingers crossed. What could have been damaged out of interest?

The tensioner had been damaged on my old rallye due to overtightening, so had to change that again even though it was only a few miles old!!

Glad you're on the way to getting it sorted, I knew that was the issue, seen it so many times before unfortunately. Sad

I have a brand new spare tensioner and idler in the garage so may change those over if I feel the need. But she is sounding a lot lot better than before so I'm well happy. I thought there may have been some internal head damage due to it sitting so long.

Loosening the belt was quick easy fix ( SO FAR SO GOOD )
