Not only is there no point in me fitting HID's to my phase 1 because of the crappy old lense design, but I don't hang around in McDonalds or Comet car parks enough for them to be appreciated anyway, so please don't suggest them. Razz However I would like to have headlights that light up the road more than a little. Any advice on bulbs/brands that do a good job of this?

I'm not too fussed about the colour as long as they're not a stupid blue or yellow colour. Also where can I get very powerful bulbs for my fog lights? I don't drive around with them on all the time, but like with my 205 if ever I was on a quiet road at night I liked having them on for the extra light - driving lights as opposed to fog lights.

Osram Nightbreaker plus are pretty good. got them for 11 quid on ebay and they have been used for 2 years of mainly nightdriving Smile

What type Headlight bulbs are for the 306? H4/H7?? or some other type?

never had a problem with the twin optic phase1 headlamps, but they were pretty new., standard Ring bulbs IIRC.

I got Halfords 100% brighter bulbs on special for the Focus as the standard lights are rubbish - much worse than the 306. Made a big difference but only lasted about 5 months - they both gave up within a month of each other. Replaced them with standard and they are still going 3 years later. Glad I didn't pay full price for them.

Ive got osram nightbreakers. Nicer than the usual orangey glow you normally get. Definately more whiter light.

Bosch do their own equivalent which im sure alot of other brands do too

You can get higher wattage bulbs.
Tbh all 55 watt bulbs are the same..

Some of the decent 55w bulbs are better than the cheapo 100 'rally' bulbs certain places sell though Wink Big grin

The factory wiring isn't designed for high-wattage bulbs, so you might get a flickery orange glow coming from the front of the car after a while when the wiring melts and shorts out on the bodywork.

Decent 55w FTW.

I noticed a big jump when i ditched standard spec bosch ones for osram night breakers tbh.
Just make sure you get nightbreaker plus

In theory yes but bulbs have different spreads and beams etc.
Osram night breakers were the bench mark for many years but phillips are currently producing the best H7 bulb for a 306.

I tried standard Peugeot, Osram nightbreakers and Philips X-treme Vision
The phillips give the best spread and most intense beam and overall best visability.

The Osrams and Phillips used to be the same price but now the phillips are about £10 more expensive.
Worth it given the basic light spread for the 306.

Ta for the advice folks. Plan was to keep the main light units completely road legal for obvious reasons, but I may go for Mei's suggestion of a sub loom so I can have more powerful driving lights (might even change the units themselves for ones with a better suited spread). The Phillips X-treme seem to be well liked generally as far as I can tell so I'll probably go for a set of those. Smile

easy, find a good power source, shunt box is good for this, and use existing wiring to trigger relays.
