Thanks Mik, that's very helpful. I think I will do this too.

Looks like I'll have to get my backside into gear and go and buy some now. LOL

Was the improvement in sound quality immediately noticable?

Definitely. They actually sounded almost tinny at first but that was because of the treble/bass settings I had used to counteract the extreme dullness of the factory speakers. Playing with the settings fixed that.

Much cleaner sound - not quite audiophile quality but 400% better than the factory speakers.

2 quotes from the talkaudio.co.uk review (see link on previous page) says it all -

"I personally would heartily and no-brain easily recommend these to anyone for any car with the right size holes - as they come in the other sizes, it makes sense. For just over fifty quid, you will get a mad-bonkers hike in purity and quality of sound over the stock speaker drivers in your factory sound system."

"there are limits and with the Alpine SXE-1725S coaxes, it's a limit of weight, dynamics and scale of sound. All of which would be bloody silly terms to even use in a review of such cheapness under normal circumstances. The fact they do work so well that these are the issues in question, is what's remarkable."

That's fine, but really I only want to upgrade the speakers. I already have a nice Alpine head unit which I'm happy with. Yes

Aaron, when you fitted the speakers in the doors and shelf were they a direct fit? Dunno

Stan buy mine its the tits honestly i only don't use it because im stripped out. I'm not selling a head unit. I'm selling Genesis woven kevlar door speakers with crossover boxes and tweeters, fit behind standard speaker grill i will also give you the tweeters already mounted in some 306 door pillars. Plus Genesis woven kevlar 6x9's and a Genesis amp too srew to the back of the rear seats and run the 6x9's creating as much bass as a 10" sub

Before I buy any of these now are these the correct ones? (Stan this is the best price I could find in case you were wondering)

Seb - Stop keep trying to sell me your super dooper system...

I only want a *slight* upgrade and am only interested in speakers not the other bits and bobs, but thanks for the offer. I can get a deent set of 4 for £46 from the link that Chris posted, bit cheaper than the £300 for your system, and I don't have a need for the other parts.

Cheers though. Thumbs up

Pipe down stan and have a look up swiftyboi006 asked for a price thas why i put what you quoted and thought was badgering you. Thats fine i don't mind what stereo you buy i offered as you said earlier price is no issue but quality and being discreet so no one steels them is. Its your choice to buy the alpines but you are being silly as Genesis are the nuts. Love you.

Got mine installed, was more effort than expecting Shock. Sound nice, clear and loud. Only thing I think these are lacking over the standard is the bass. If I put the bass too loud they go muffled whereas standard could cope with it and felt like they had a bit more kick. Still much better speaker other than that. And I do realise speakers aint really for bass it's just nice when a good song comes on Razz

I found this too but played around with the treble/bass settings which improved it a lot, though some of that is down to the general dullness of the factory speakers. They do seem designed to emphasise the mid-range and treble more, and the bass less. I'm used to them now.

So which type E's fit 306 doors?

I have a stack of speakers, and would like to sell them to Stan if possible. So part numbers to cross reference would be useful.

Got my alpine SXE-1725s fitted the other day along with a small 150w sub that was originally intended to go under the seat. I realised that I'd need to drill the floor to actually bolt the sub down so i just attached it to the back of the rear seats. All in it sounds pretty good, if a little tinny still. I dare say I need to experiment with the head unit a little more.

One thing i will say about fitment is that the front speakers are definitely on the limit for depth. As were the rears actually. I would be inclined to just hacksaw the plastic cage off the rears though so I could get something bigger in. The plastic cage doesn't do anything and would take about 30 seconds to modify.
