Has any one used one of these before?

I'm thinking about getting one for the Dimma, can any one see a down side to these set ups?

I would re-locate the filter to the battery Bay Area as that will be in the car, at the moment iv got the water/oil heater take off then the oil cooler take off and then a slim filter, iv got another take off plate for my oil temp and pressure gauge, this will leave bugger all room if any between the filter and fans.

With the relocation kit it comes with 2 sensor take offs on the new relocated filter housing so I wouldn't need my take off plate, however I assume I would still have the heat exchanger then oil cooler take off and then the relocation kit take off plate?

In short are these kits any good?

They work, many pugs had them as standard back in the day due to space Constraints, quite a few used the heat exchangee bolted to the front of the gearbox so the coolant pipes off the top hose were quote a lot shorter.

not seen these, may be handy for my rallye to be able run a cooler as my pipes run close to the filter

Iv looked at lots of kits on flea bay but I only really want the take off plate and new filter housing as the braided lines they come with look of crap quality, only problem With this is most complete kits/ plate kits have the ports facing forward on the take off plate so would still stick out quite a bit once you have the male to male adapters and right angle unions!

One kit has the ports at the side of the take off plate (like a oil cooler take off plate) which would give me a lot more room!

Servicing would be easier and less messy too Smile

Been thinking that, still best to keep the cooler take off plate in its original location isn't it?
Only down side is more weight in braided lines and unions, more ££ for more oil, get shares in royal purple me thinks!

Because Im a twat.
What is the main advantage of dry sumps?
I assume its partly to do with oil surge?

You take an uncontrolled oil environment and change it to controlled.

Basically you feed just enough oil into the engine when it needs it so reduces drag on the crank.

And yes it's supposed to reduce oil surging Yes

I used a remote filter on my Rover V8 powered Sunbeam due to space constraints, I mounted it where I could fit a much larger than std filter & it was easy to get to.
Iirc I used a normal oil cooler take off with a cast blanking plate to feed the remote filter.

Cool

So you used 2 take off plates? One in the block with a blanking cap for the end and the other with a filter and blanking plate??
You can buy the 2 plates for £40 then just lines and unions plus they have 2 take offs for gauges = result

1.) Less drag from the crank in the oil as the dry sump system scavenges the oil straight out of the sump.
2.) Can release more power by generating a vacuum in the crankcase (reduces pumping losses and helps ring seal)
3.) No oil surge issues if correctly designed.
4.) You can mount the engine much lower due to the sump being far thinner (as the oil is stored in a deaireation tank elsewhere), improving the center of gravity of the drivetrain and usually allowing the engine to be packaged closer to the centre of the chassis.

I had some small alloy blocks welded into my cooler hose take off, which I then tapped and drilled to suit the temp sensor. You would also be better off remotely mounting your pressure sensor as they don't like the constant vibration associated with been bolted to the engine. Other way you could do it is to buy an adapter which could go on the hose which you could mount pressure and temp sensors into. My pressure sensor is mounted on the wing and connected, via a bit of -3 hose, to an adapter that goes into where the standard pressure switch goes, just above the filter.

Just like this one...

The same could be said with any oil cooler installation though...

I hope there customer service was better for you than me, it took me a 100 mile round trip, and then another 6 months just to get a pump rebuild kit and a couple of belts!

Cant remember his name now, but there sales guy was fcuking useless. Never called back, never sorted things out.

Despite that there parts are good!
