As said, deox gel. It works better if you get a drill wire brush and get all the loose stuff off, then put on the gel covered with cling film to stop it drying out and leave it for 2 or 3 days before hosing off. Then apply bilt hamber electrox zinc primer to the de-rusted metal. Overcoat with your choice of paint.

You can get Bilt Hamber products online, delivery is pretty quick.

You will need to peel the bad bits of underseal off manually. As I have found, it can look sound but actually be incubating rust by trapping water next to the metal where it has become detached but stays in place. I peeled the bad bits off, de rusted and zinc primed it, then overcoated with body-colour paint. Looks good now. In some areas you will need stone chip paint over the top of the zinc primer.

Also make sure you do the wheel arch lips - best to catch them early. There may be flaking paint there.

I spent months de-rusting the underside of my car, now only the sill seams to go.

Bilt Hamber are awesome, they also do a weld-through metal primer spray paint which I used to do my interior, was very good and no more expensive than the crappy Halfords stuff.

Deox-C soak for parts that are small and come off, gel for bits that don't. As people said though it's not going to get through paint or grease, so get the metal as bare as possible to give it a chance.

New metal is the best option for rotten metal for sure!LOL

But over the top for surface rust repairs reallyCrazy

Surface rust can be treated and stopped from spreading without the need to get the welder outThumbs up

list price is £2.5k, which seems a bit high as the 205 was £800 odd and the 106 about £900.

207 shells are £1400.

You can get a really nice painted (but perhaps slightly rusty in its nether regions) shell with the rest of the car attached to it including engine, wheels and everything for that kind of money.

I was gonna buy a new shell and rebuild it with brand new parts to make a new registered gti6. But then I came to my sense and realised it would cost far too much. So I bought a Mercedes
