As most of you will be aware if you change the standard air filter to a K&N induction kit they sit very low and close to the ground making it very easy to suck up water going though large puddles or floods.

I have been wondering for a while now, would it make any difference to performance would you get heat soak or anything else to consider if i was to cut the pipe and move it up closer to the inlet manifold. This would stop alot of worry as i live out in the country there are alot of floods and large puddles in the winter time.

Any advice would be welcome Smile

I think so, I think you need length in the inlet for torque? Plus you are closer to the heat source?
The best would be to get an encclosed one like and apollo and redirect it to the standard air scoop

On my 205 GTi6 I had one coming straight off the throttle body on the end of a 3" piece of samco hose.

In an ideal world id move my battery to my boot and have a CDA carbon one up top

Dan - I take it running it close on the 205 was no issue?

IM sure ive seen someone setup a CDA so that they didnt have to move the battery?
BUt the standard airbox is a bit epic imo.
Mine was very nice the other night when it was 5c at night at its just a standard setup with a k&n drop in.

Brought my china it came with a K&N off the standard down pipe off the throttle body was not happy due to winter time so here is what i done put it just off the throttle body during the winter due to wet weather and standing water. 75 degree samco hose worked a treat Thumbs up. dont really advise it in when the weather gets warmer. idealy i never sourced a standard air box in the end.

An undertray would help with the water from underneath as well as road crud, but might also need additional shielding?

K&N are OK and I used to put them on all my cars, and my Rallye even came with one fitted, but I went back to standard as soon as I could. Standard airbox has more torque down low for sure, and it might or might not have lost a tiny bit of top end but not enough to notice.

mine ( a bomz cone off of a 2.0 mondeo :/ )is just stuck straight onto the throttle body, no pipe or nothing lol. in the future i will most likely be relocating the battery and abs and making some sort of box to stop heat soak and get a decent cold air feed.
