After the moment with the ditchfinders (put on by PO) this morning, I'm looking for decent tyres.

Searching does not reveal too many sporty tyres in 195/55-15 size, which I know is small these days, which I'm keen to stick with as it is the original size and keeps the correct gearing. I don't do track days, I want them for road driving but I want a sporty tyre not a numb, comfortable tyre. I've had Toyo T1R before, but am looking for something better.

I can't seem to find Michelin PE2s - have they been superseded?

If they have, is Continental PremiumContact5 an acceptable substitute? The words "comfortable ride" put me off.

Is the PS3 available in this size - didn't look like it.

Any other recommendations?

PS3 isn't available in 15/55/195 mate, should go for pe2's but I'd go for a 50 profile Thumbs up

Agreed - they make the car look as if its sitting higher due to the bigger gap in the arches. A guy I met thought mine was lowered but it's not - he was used to the look of the 50 profile tyres on his car.

Thanks for the suggestions Kev - I was looking at tyre sites and hadn't tried ebay.

I've just looked it up and it seems to compete well with Continental and Michelin but is better value. Downsides given are soft sidewalls and not the sportiest feel. Typical review: http://whichtyres.com/2012/01/how-good-is-the-uniroyal-rainsport-2/

Definitely a strong contender, wet braking being very important given the amount it rains in UK.

£60/shot in 195/55-15? Haven't been able to find it online. Great deal though - similar to or cheaper than Toyos. How did you find out?

I think we are on the same page with what we want (non s**t tyres) and i've tried a few now...
In my eyes there are 2 options that are properly desirable.
a few that are ok.
And them some serious s**t.

The only two i would buy in 195/55/15 are Uniroyal rs2's or pe2's with pe2s being the best option imo.
I havent tried Continental Premium contact 5's but they are supposed to be good tyres and the same goes for the dunlops
AD08's would be ultimate if its a dry only fun car.
Then as far as ok goes falken ze912's were fine for whacking miles on when I had them

IMO avoid BFgoodrich G-GRIP (the name is a bit off a lie unless they have masses of heat), although they have got a bit better with age.
Avoid t1rs too, They are an a good tyre if you have never tried anything else and nothing more.
Also away away from Rainexperts. NOT the same as rainsports.....

I've had a BFG Profiler, worked well, very similar feel to a PE2, also had ZV5's in a 55 on a 405, not compared them directly though, AdamB might be able to as he's had michelin conti and ZV5 on his 06.

For me though, Its the main driver for going for Lighter 16inch wheels as the tyre choice is SO SO much better.
You get the option of the below in 205/45/16
Michelin PS3's
Federal RSR's ( Semi slicks that are terrible in the wet)
Pirelli PZERO Nero
Rainsport 2's in abundance

I wouldnt get rainsport 2's if you want a decent sporty tyre. I've got them on a set of steelies and the soft sidewall makes the car feel unpredictable when shifting the weight from one side to the other.

PE2's which i have on my daily driver are much better, more grip, better feedback etc.
The RS2's grip ok but they dont give me the confidence to drive as hard as i can on PE2's.
Both the above tyres are 195/50/15.

I wish i hadnt been a tight arse when i bought the RS2's and just got another set of PE2's. Doh

PE2's are strange, They get the limit from where it was by here ^ to somewhere all the way by here ^.

I remember turning a corner at speed after I got them and thinking s**t i better back off a little, but I was forced by someone else to keep pushing as I was boxed in like a b**ch.
Turns out there was a LOT more leeway with 4 newish PE2's on.

Which is why i cant wait to try slightly wider PS3's or RSR's

I'm keen to get PE2s as a first choice (after searching a number of other tyre-related threads) so will look for those. Lovetyres.com says they are on back order and no other site (except ebay) lists them. Maybe they are being discontinued?

The BFG Profilers are a good contender.

I've been looking at reviews and saw the previously-unheard-of Finnish Nokian brand scored well in a number of tests against other premium brands. The Nokian V seems like a sporty tyre with stiff sidewalls and good wet performance. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Nokian/V.htm Good price too (£68.50 at mytyres).

Rainsport2 might be OK for a backup as they are good quality but not really a hot hatch kind of tyre.

Actually i think you are right.
I reckon they are gone for good in that size now
I would say G Profiler or Rainsport 2s
Dont discount rs2s they are no joke.

To be fair I cant see either of those two on Camskill or a few other bigger name tyre sites in 195/55/15 (only looking as I know new tyres are on the horizon and PE2's were my choice last time round)

I got some 55 section PE2s from Camskill within the last 6 months. Best tyres I've had on a 306 yet. Can't see them on any of the usual websites at the moment. Would be a shame if they are NLA :-(

Maybe get some winter tyres for now and see if the PE2s come back into stock by the time it warms up.

I have some Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D which I like. Got Conti WinterContact TS830P on another car, also good, but no idea if they come in 195/55/15.

My brand new set of T1R's are very very good..It still picks up an inside rear even in the wet and understeer is minimal even when its chucking it down. Grip levels are enormous and id definitely have another set ,
