I've scrolled through numerous threads about stalling issues, all of them seem a bit different so thought i'd just ask my own question...

My issue is intermittent, doesn't seem to have any particular temperature it does it at, ambient or engine. It's when slowing to a stop and dipping the clutch, sometimes it catches on 8/9krpm sometimes it drops lower and doesnt die but mostly it stalls. Now i've obviously read about CTS and ICV and am willing to try them, however nobody has mentioned AC in these threads. If i have the AC on then it NEVER stalls. I don't know if this is because the unit is spinning and holds the engine rpm via the belt, or if when the ac is off something is going wrong?

Any ideas?

the ecu raises the revs at low revs to stop it stalling, when a/c not on it relies on the icv to stop stalling, so sounds to me that you need to clean your icv out

I've tried cleaning it with some wd40 and brake cleaner but didn't help the issue. I've also tried a new air intake temp sensor with no avail.

There's loads to try tbh.
PAS Sensor can cause issues by not compensating for the rack being used or sending a load of bs to the ecu.
ICV
MAP sensor
and so on.
They are the main three though

PAS sensor is a good shout, but the ICV is the main one. Yes

I would recommend a proper clean of that ICV, and if that doesn't solve the issue then it's probably time for a new one. Wink

had this on a 306 GTi engine once, replaced the ICV, TPS, MAP, lambda; eventually it was due to massive carbon buildup inside the engine and inlet manifold/throttle housing, mainly caused by bad petrol

I've read that unplugging the pas sensor is a good way of telling of that's the prob. If it cures it what's the negative to leaving it unplugged for good?

If that does cure the issue I wouldn't worry about replacing it too much. A lot of people have unplugged faulty ones and never had any issues from doing so. Smile

The steering sensor is not absolutely necessary, the engine just drops a little in revs when you are turning at idle, the XSI 16V for instance doesn't have the steering sensor

I unplugged it before driving home, didn't have any stalling but it came close once or twice still. Do I need to reset or anything or just unplugging do the job?

It's probably a good idea, these things do get clogged up and wear out over time. One piece of advice, get a genuine one even though it costs a lot. The eBay cheapies don't last that long unfortunately. Sad

about 140 pounds for a OE peugeot, 100 pounds for a VDO, 35 pounds for a ebay one......

Yeah, take the steppermotor from the housing and give them both a good clean with WD40 or a degreaser, check for leaks (O-ring, the connecting hose etc) and check if the wires/connector are OK.

If nothing of the above helps, you've got to buy a new one.

Today, I plugged the modis diagnostic in at work, it came up with an O2 sensor fault. Cleared it, but I presume I need a new one. Expensive from pug? Presume it's worth getting a genuine?

It's a Bosch sensor the genuine one. Yes

You can get it from Pug, they are around £140 but you can get the identical sensor from a Bosch stockist for probably half the price.
