It almost wants to go but just not quite thinking timing may be a little bit out

This sentence makes me think that's it not a case of a locked ECU. If it was locked, there would be no sign whatsoever of an engine wanting to fire up because there would be no spark available. The fact that it sounds like it wants to fire tells me it's either a cam sensor fault (given that you've tried a crank sensor already) or the cam timing is out. Yes

But his fuel pump doesn't work, if the cam sensor was defect the fuel pump would run upon startup

should still start afaik without cam sensor, just not on sequential injection.

crank is a different matter.

does the fuel pump fire up when you crank it? do you have spark?

Until the OP tests whether or not he has a spark this thread is pretty much useless as it could be any number of things...

He said on page 1 no spark. Suggest new plugs for a start given the others are described as corroded.

you'll still get a spark from the coilpack.

There has to be a spark though if what he's saying about the engine almost starting is true. If a spark wasn't present the engine would just turn over with no indication it was going to fire at all. Smile

Yes I know but the knackered plugs aren't going to help anything!

Have you tried the relay unit thing that sits on the back of the battery/ecu box?

No, besides which using the unlocked ECU will bypass the immobiliser anyway.

Daft question, but have you checked all the fuses?

Have you checked the earths on the gear box ? There are 2 sets of earths ? My money is on earth problem here ?

Follow the earth from the battery to the gear box then just in front of that should be another pair of earths ?

If you don't know what your looking at then you need to get someone who does bud Thumbs up

if the heads been off to get new stem seals then i suppose theres a chance that the timing hasnt been set properly, although if it was that far out you'd hear valve to piston contact

So abit of a update, I sent the car to auto elec and we have it running but at 5000 rpm and he can't read the ECU for any faults he tells me the ECU is f**ked ( this is the one one my running car ) so I took the original one that was in that car up to him once again he said it f**ked cant read any fault. So he said we could send it off to be tested
But I have had these both in my working Rallye and run fine

What are your forts guys

The ECU's in these cars only respond to proper Magneti Marelli or Peugeot diagnostic equipment, and a small number of others.

A generic OBD reader won't read them.

High RPM idle suggests an air leak or an issue with the ICV.
