After a recent conversion over CXOC (and thanks to my obsession) I would like to get a bit technical info about the engines they used in the 306 Maxi and the Xsara Kit-Car.

Like valve sizes / head modifications etc..

Right now I'm looking for homologation sheets - not that I found any yet...

If you have ANY kind of info please share with us Smile

Steel crank, solid lifters, slipper pistons, lots of RPM, VERY long exhaust primaries, good intake lengths.

and that's about it LOL

brief googling, EVO2 was 308 BHP @ 11k Shock 265Nm @ 8900

boreXstroke = standard 86mm, compression ratio 12.5-1.

Xsara Kit-Car engine on display:

Variable inlet tract length, manifold looking really similar to the original (well, it seem to have a somewhat similar curvature), flywheel looks similar to the TTV race only flywheel.

This engine was really made for high rpms. Even the injectors close to the cylinder head would be too far for a roadgoing car (at least on low rpms).

And it's really a surprise that they did not touch the bore / stroke. So in theory they used the original block.

I couldnt get my head around it at first, thougt it was a roler barrel throttle setup at first, but if you look for a while it starts to make sense. The bell crank you can see moves the carbon trumpets away from The ends of the ally runners, making a short tract (hence the gap, if you look closely you can see radiuses on the ally inlets for good airflow when the carbon trumpets are in the extended position) or into contact with the aluminium runners to make a longer tract. Looks like it gives the ability to lengthen or shorten the total inlet length by about 40mm, it's a pretty clever way of doing it actually and now it's got me thinking LOL

I think it would be way too slow with the cable operated bell crank.

I guess some kind of actuator is placed behind the backplate of the airbox, pulling the shaft of the secondary trumpets in and out.

Maybe, but the inlet trumpets are definitely movable, the shaft at the side may well be an actuator.

What's the point in that catch tank if everything just drains out of it?

Catches the vapour, any airborne oil will return to the sump.

Eep, €2660 for the crank :eek. Small big ends like the longmans engines, longer rods, lower side thrust forces less friction lighter rods.

On a road car you would'nt plumb it that way on a road car as they get condensation from inside the top of the cam covers turning oul into gungy mayo, but I expect race engines with their regular oil changes and strip downs dont suffer the same problem so the oil vapours can just be recycled back to the sump via a one way valve to prevent problems if theres a rollover.

what are those electric plugs for near the valve cover?

On the injectors there are four separate so they should be there for a different purpose!

8 injectors, plus theres a set of plugs for a sub-loom next to the cam ladder, these beru motorspot looms are something special.

Didn't consider the regular oil changes Doh

So is the tank required for the vapors to condense? Otherwise a single pipe would suffice, no?

Yeah, gives all the oily vapour some place to go to the crank isn't running in an oil mist.

So it's just like an expansion tank? Or will it have a vent that we can't see in the pictures?
It's just the fact that it looks sealed that's confusing me
