Just to say thanks to this forum for the excellent FAQ and the members who answered, what would be to them, my stupid and obvious queries.

I have managed to strip and rebuild the cylinder head, new timing motor kit and water pump, starter motor, radiator, and thermostat.

I would say to anyone just give it a go. I had never done anything except the basic oil change etc. and had never considered doing the timing, never mind the rest. And don't be afraid to ask the obvious as, from experience, you will get good advice.

Fair play for that, never dared do it myself and I'm not generally afraid of a spanner.

One thing I did find out and that is that small hands are a great advantage. My fat hands and stubby fingers are not a good combination. Be alright when all the bits of skin burn off the exhaust manifold.

To be honest it hasn't been driven but it has been running for about 20 minutes and all the temps are fine and there's no worrying noises now the followers have calmed down.

Always been apprehensive about the cambelt myself but need to do it when I get home for peace of mind, probably related to the high cost of failure Laugh. Fair play mate. Smile

You're more than welcome, that's what we are all here for.

Well done for finding the confidence to give it a go, it's very satisfying when it all goes to plan isn't it? Thumbs up

As for the funny "A" symbol appearing, it is connected to using the pound symbol there must be a coding bug I think. Yes

I would love to do a head rebuild, had ago at striping a Cylinder head at college. Although it was 'out' and it was a mini digger engine LOL

Good on you though! I may buy a second car one day as a little project but that will only happen if I can either afford to rent a workshop/lock up or have a decent size garage and of course afford to buy a 2nd car Smile

I'm surprised Owain hasn't given us a 500 word post on why this is happening...

Was tempted earlier, but I don't have time today for the flocks of hot women who try and batter down my door whenever I start talking about extended ASCII character sets.
