Anyone ever got this and is it quite normal? I can understand it dropping abit but by 200rpm? And the AFR increases but no other electrical item makes this happen.

Can anybody shed any light on this please?

Thanks

It's a big load, and if your ICV is'nt in good nick it doesn't handle that sort of thing very well.

Well with nothing to lift the throttle vs the increased load from the alternator it's hardly surprising the revs drop. Can you raise the idle speed a little to compensate? If it drops 200 rpm that's right on the verge of stalling and would explain your nasty AFR reading.

Wouldn't really want to raise idle anymore as it sits around 1100 iirc. I'll keep an eye on it, it's not that close to stalling just something I noticed today and wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Didn't realise the rear heated screen increased the load by that much, no more than say the blower.

It's a lot more, only a few amps for a motor, but more like 20+ amps for a heated screen, that's probably why it set to idle at 1100 and not the usual 950 rpm then. Just something you're going to have to put up with then I guess.

Paul,

Having the same running gear setup as you, I would suspect mine also does this. Yes

However, seeing as I have never driven it in the winter or anytime after September during the year, I've never had need to use the heated screen. Doh

But yeah, as Jim says, the heated screen is a huge electrical load in comparison to other items on the car. Yes

However, seeing as I have never ever driven it simply because the car does not exist, I've never had need to use the heated screen.

EFAThumbs up

The next time I do actually drive mine, I'll test this for you and post up the results. Pretty sure it'll be the same though.

The ECU doesn't use it for the idle speed. The idle speed on mine and Paul's car (Buzz's too I suspect) is controlled by a hole drilled in the butterfly. Yes

No ICV cleaning problems for us. Cool
