Can anyone walk me through how to fit a new pulley,Is it as easy as locking the tensioner with an allen key, undo 22mm bolt on the pulley & then straight swap with new one?

I've searched & seen the word woodruff key mentioned a few times? anyone care to explain?

I bought the whole alloy aux pulley set from rich_w & a new belt,I've changed the other two pulleys & belt tonight with a friend but couldn't get the bolt on the crankshaft pulley to budge. So I'm going to attack with the torch on Saturday

Bit of a noob to mechanics,Just trying to learn to tinker with my car instead of giving my mechanic £50 a hour

Cheers

use a BIG bar, place in gear and have an assistant lean on the brake pedal, or use an impact gun and loosen crank pulley retaining bolt, DO NOT USE A BOLT IN THE HOLE.

remove aux belt, slide off pulley, make sure woodruff key stays in place, fit new shiny pulley, apply threadlock to bolt, refit and torque bolt, refit aux belt, job done.

I know this Will sound stupid but whats the woodruff key? I had my friend stick the car in gear & stamped on the brake but the pulley was still moving slightly (my clutch is on its last legs) hence why I'm going to heat the bolt up saturday & try again

What is is about "don't heat up the bolt" you don't understandDunno
Use an impact wrench or gun.....
Listen to the advice your given or your next thread will be called "why do mechanics think I'm a tool"?

Cool

The woodruff key is a small chunk of metal which fits in the keyway on the pulley. If you look at your new pulley, in the hole in the middle you'll see a cut-out. The woodruff key slides in here. Yes

You don't need to do anything with the key except ensure it is still in place when you remove the old pulley. As long as it is, then follow the directions that Welshpug posted above. Smile

Don't lock the cams when trying to undo the crank pulley, that's just asking for trouble. Put the car in gear and use the brakes with it to lock the engine. Why on earth would you use 2 6mm bolts to hold the cams then trust the belt to hold everything whilst you swing off the crank pulley bolt with a big bar? If the belt stretches or slips your engines mullered! Yes

+1

Never pin the crank or cams to undo bolts on this circuit. It will either snap the pins, damage the casings on the engine or cause timing belt damage. Yes

No

This will leave you with a lot of damage.

The only way realy is a good air gun, in gear and brakes and all that stuff may work but it wil just wing up the clucth springs

Gearbox off??? Thats what the hole in the block Is for behind the starter motor no need to remove the box just the starter and use an 8mm rod through the flywheel. Would never advise putting it in gear and a mate on the brakes either that's the quickest way to strip a tooth off the cambelt been there done that on a 6 lump and Xud9te lump as well.

Impact gun or lock the flywheel. Depending on where you are in Medway I'd say come See me at work in tunbridge wells tomoz and I'll wack it on for you for a score or something.

Used the bar and starter method on a few occasions when I havnt had an impact gun handy just be careful Wink. Though on my diablo 6 it was so tight it just went THUNK when cranked and didn't move lol

I've never had a problem using the bar method with the vehicle in gear and an assistant on the brakes.

However, a completely reliable method is definitely the impact gun. I would advise trying to get hold of one to be honest, that way you can't go wrong. Yes

Yeh should do the job if it doesn't straight away be persistent backwards forwards etc should crack the thread lock eventually. Just don't forget to thread lock it after Wink.
