The HDi has a locking fuel cap. It has a separate key as the previous owner apparently left the original at the petrol station.

Now, I presume it's an aftermarket pattern locking cap as quite frankly it's s**te and fiddly to use.

Are ph2 cap threads different? I would rather just change it for a non locking one if possible for less embarrassment at the petrol pump faffing trying to get it back on. Granted its a rare visit as it's done 598 miles so far with a shade under a quarter of a tank left. Champion.

The late ph3s had locking caps as standard fit.
Just had a look at mine and they wont take a standard screw cap unless you replace the whole filler neck from a earlier car.

But if it has screw threads on it any screw on cap should fit.

Aftermarket for sure, whip it off and lob on a normal one.
Did the same on the last DT I had.

You said yours wont take a non locking one, so presumably this one won't either?

The original one that was on there from new was locking also according to the previous owner.

What year is it? As only really late cars have them (2001 on IIRC)

Check for threads once you remove the cap.

99, so an early one. Yeah there are threads on there.

Out of interest how do the proper locking ones attach and lock on?

Two tabs that lock inside the opening where the nozzle goes in.

Push the cap in and twist the key, the one like yours I had could be undone without a key anyway.

That appears to be the early type with the screw on cap with a ghetto aftermarket one.

My 99 Rallye has the old type, My 01 HDi has the new type.
