A few weeks ago I was asked to supply a 6 for a day to film a feature but I didn't have the time.
I recommended a couple of other 6's they could use but before that was arranged I was informed that they had sourced one. One of the production team probably bought one with there lunch funds....

No doubt it will be a feature including Jonny Smith compairing new and old GTI hatchbacks etc (maybe the 208), much like Topgear did years ago when Peugeot released the 206 GTI 180 and put it against the 205 1.9 GTI. Time will tell.

As most of you will know, the new series started this week so expect to see it some time soon.

I'm pretty sure Carl Chambers ended up supplying one

There is a picture on here (or might me facebook 306) of VBH turning up in a quattroporte and taking a shot in his Astor?

Then they took it off to Bedford aerodrome/autodrome/aquadrome (delete as appropriate)

Edit: actually tell a lie, it was someone else with a rather tidy Astor, who took for a track day at Bedford, and spotted VBH and the production team taking round a nice 205 gti ...

You were half right Dave. It was Carl Chambers (mrs) Astor 306 used by VBH for 5th gear, and they tested at Castle Coombe.

Two of the three cars I forwarded on to recommend to use were Jane's (Carls other half) and yours Matt (although I knew there were a few things like wheels, lights etc to change on yours).

on that note, whilst in San Francisco a few weeks ago i got talking to someone slagging jeremy clarkson off as allegedly Tesla are suing the bbc for upwards of £10million for staging the bad battery life of the sports car when they reviewed it a few years ago... anyone know if its true?? TG claimed the car died after 52 miles and they embaressing pushed it into the works shop end of test....

Hmm

Well if rumours are true the 208 gti will weigh in at about 975kg meaning it'll be around 200bhp/tonne which is a near as damn it e46 m3 terrortory.
