Got some tapping going on. Not comfy with it. Is it something that can be fixed by someone re-doing the timing?________________________________________ the zombie apocalypse started long ago, only no-one realised most can talk and drive |

Yep, pretty much as above. Do a search on here for "tapping" and you will find all you need to know on the subject. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Sounds like you've got a classic tapper then. Head off job and replace those valves. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

It can be several different things. A sticky follower, loose spark plug or a bent valve head following a snapped cam belt. Unfortunately, only one of those problems is easy to check up on. ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

As I'm not too confident with anything engine-wise is anyone near/passing Uttoxeter who wouldn't mind having a little look one day? ________________________________________ the zombie apocalypse started long ago, only no-one realised most can talk and drive |

The very fact it has history of a cambelt snap tells me it will probably be a bent valve tap. Does it sound like a sewing machine? ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

That's actually quite a good way to describe it lol. I was fairly sire it was going to end up being a valve too. ________________________________________ the zombie apocalypse started long ago, only no-one realised most can talk and drive |

Oh dear. Unfortunately looking at around £600 for the repair if you do it yourself, more if you add someone else's labour. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

valves are around a tenner each, plus gasket £40, head bolts £20, belt kit £60, WP £24.there's also the labour to recut the valve seats and skim the head, IF its possible, as there's a max of 0.25mm that can be taken off, if the head has already been off it'll be better to just source another good head. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Well, if you're going to do it as Welshpug says there is all that lot to buy. As well as that, don't forget you'll need an oil/filter change and a coolant change too. New exhaust manifold gasket too, these are £20. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Sometimes buying a complete engine that it known to be a good runner is the most cost-effective way of doing it. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Yeah would be cheapest but I'm thinking of getting the whole engine rebuilt with pocketed pistons etc to run decent cams etc been getting a couple of quotes to weigh up options that's all |
