why are the N/S holes elongated?

Only reason i can think of, is to make fitting the beam assembly easier, mount tolerances maybe. seen a few 306's with

their beams sitting 10mm or so off the the N/S,

I think mine are like it on both sides, I wouldn't say elongated, I think theyre round but bigger than the stud that goes through that's joined to the mount.
Well saying that, I can't really remember, was ages ago, but I'm certain both sides was the same.
Can't see it helping to mount the beam though.

i will measure exact sizes tomorrow, but they are easy 10mm more elongated whereas the O/S are perfectly round

They are to align your rear beam, I seem to remember a member off here travelling in the boot with a mate driving perfectly straight, then nipping the bolts up once the beam had aligned itself LOL , I had Skip Browns align mine and they got it spot on, there must be a few 6's out there crabbing a bit cos there's are not aligned after a beam change I reckon,

Are 205 beams the same?

The holes on the lower floor are elongated but the inner boot holes are perfectly round.
