I'm thinking of buying just the Omex 600 ecu and wiring loom does it come with the base map you need to get it going and does the loom you get come complete with all you need to plug and play?

Got my Omex from Jenvey, it can come as a basic wiring kit with pretty much the plug and some wires and you sort it all out yourself, great on a race car where you are probably replacing all of the wiring, but not so great for everyone else. The other option is a pre made universal loom, this is a professionally assembled plug and play harness with a main connector for the ecu, then everything from coolant/air temp sensors, ignition coil, injectors, throttle pot, rev counter, shift light and fuel pump. You will need to order the appropriate sensors if you don't have them. Are you going for bodies?

The universal loom is just that, Will be a mess when installed and if using on a 6 engine you'll need either a external coil pack or the XSi coil pack, That's unless your using the 710 ECU

Best bet is the un-terminated loom as you can run a Lambda, Fan relay etc

Fitting is quite easy on the 6, So a custom loom won't cost the earth, I have a few maps as well and mapping 5 mins from me

They will provide a base map if you give them the engine and cam details, and can usually e-mail it to you...

As Jim says, the loom can come complete which is ideal if you are a novice, but does mean you may have excess wiring in places, or unterminated, so labelled cables fitted to the ecu plug, but no plugs for injectors, coil etc. You then have to cut those to length, crimp the terminals on and fit the terminals into the plastic housings. It's really pretty easy and will give a tidier finish. You can usually program the ECU to read the sensors you have, and not all of them are compulsory.

The TPS is known as a colvern type,nd should come with the kit. Chances are you'll need a seperate single coil, rather than 4 individual ones, I think I used one from a 405, but theres loads about, although there are 2 different plug types, a 4 pin and a 3 pin I think. Coolant sensor you have is fine, you just tell the ECU to read that sensor, air temp should also come with the kit and again, you can tell the ECU what to read, probably best to mount it on the throttle body air filter backplate.

I reckon i would take me a few hours to sort the loom out, and whilst I know what I'm doing, it's not like I do it everyday so an auto electrician should be less, so maybe £50-£60 for a couple of hours work?

Only need a P&G TPS (Colvern type of worst) & ATS, all the other's can be Pug, The lambda is best being swapped for a 3 wire one.
Also what inlet you running as I will have one of mine with a Custom inlet RR Next week all being well (Daveyboy) knows about them too, as the Jenvey one is too short really.

Coil wise it's best like this

The XSI pack fit's with the old coil pack tab's removed, Saves having horrid HT Leads

You can also see the inlet length here too

Not many maps at Omex, I've only ever been supplied one, But I know they can mod them slightly if you email them, Trial and Error but with a standish engine the base map runs OK but must be RR before driven on the road

Also, I know it comes as a kit from DT, but I'd speak to DTA also, they do a similar kit and I found the DTA ecu's much easier to work with than the Omex, but I guess it comes down to what experience your engine mapper has.

What Omex ECU is it?
Loom wise it's all the same no mater what ECU, remove complete engine loom and re-wire from there, You can bodge the old engine ECU loom in but it's not the best practice, The only thing you use from the old engine loom are the sensors for water and oil temps and switched live for the various relays and ECU

Loom wise depends on the spec of the car, I've got my relays in the old relay box but all of the old ones are long gone,
Joy's of aftermarket wiring, there's no such thing as plug and play, well for a neat install anyway

Ktec are 5 mins from me in Verwood, Andy is bang on knowing the box's inside and out, And after years of various mappers I can say he's by far the best

Miles what are ktec like for setting up bodies etc? Or is it just mapping they will do?
I'm looking into bodies and cams soon, the only thing really stopping me was the fact I toughy I'd have to drive miles to get any help with mapping/setting up.
