They're not saying it's bad (yet), just that they're no longer endorsing it. Sponsorship deal gone awry maybe?

I used it last week in the bike. It seemed to make it fly. Yes

Might just stick to V-Power from now on though...

These things are always stupid scare stories, most of the stuff supermarkets get is just "whatever they can get their hands on cheapest", so it can be all kinds of stuff.

Yes you can probably get the odd bad batch, yes you can find a s**tty engine and blame it on the fuel, but I've been using supermarket fuel 95% of the time for the eleven years I've been driving, and bearing in mind I've always done fairly high mileage (15k+) that's well over a hundred thousand miles of driving on supermarket fuel and never once have I had fuel related issues. Not on crappy diesels, not on bigger engines (2.7 V6 in my Coupe), not in my modern Astra diesel and not in the '6.

I've never had needed a new fuel filter out-of-band, I've never had a mechanic go OH JESUS LOOK AT YOUR SPARK PLUGS, I've never had misfiring issues, so I never believe any of this s**t.

I reckon it's just often the easiest thing to jump on. Say a car's over-fuelling and the spark plugs are just covered in black sooty s**t. Someone asks what fuel goes in, and as soon as they hear it's supermarket stuff they lay the blame there because it's easier than finding the actual issue.

Until the day I have a prematurely knackered fuel filter, or clogged up injectors, or gummed up fuel pipes I'll just carry on saving myself some money thanks Thumbs up

My only notable experience with Tesco 99 is that while my 205 Mi16 was running on dodgy 2 row motronic management, it ran a hell of a lot better on Tesco than anything else. Noticeably more power and massively better fuel consumption, even better than V-power. When I changed it to 3 row management which cured a number of problems I couldn't tell the difference between any of the 97/99/premium fuels except that they were all better than anything 95.

On the 306 XS I had, the Xsara I ran briefly and when the Xsara engine was in the 309, all fuels, 95/97/99/tesco/shell/esso/texaco.... all of them performed almost exactly the same as far as I could tell.

Don't really use tesco but I know morrisons fuel is s**te. Always the cheapest in town by a penny or two but I get much less miles from it.

I use tescos momentum fuel, average 350 a tank mixed driving. I know when I use 95 stuff I barely scrape 300.

I'm in the same boat there mate, lucky to get 300 on regular, ANY super gets me over 300 (350)

Saying its all s**te just can't be true, petrol has to meet standards. Yes, more bio fuels are being mixed in , but supermarket petrol just isn't s**t.

I often see Sainsbury's tankers in Total stations

This is exactly right. Remember when BP (iirc) used a blue pump for their new petrol? Blue is best known for diesel, so countless people filled up their cars incorrectly. The company in question had to pay out a fortune in compensation to get everyone's cars recovered and repaired, can you imagine what'd happen if it was proven that Tesco's petrol was gumming up people's engines? They'd be forced to pay out hundreds of millions as everyone would claim that any issue with their car was down to their petrol.

Anyway, all this because what? Thorney have written a line on their website? It could be that Mr Thorney got annoyed they didn't have any of the plastic gloves on the forecourt so ruined his manicure and now he's p**sed.

Judging by some reactions on various forums, this is closer to the truth. Something to do with sponsorship being pulled and/or Tesco's involvement with another team running MG's it seems. This Thorney guy isn't unknown to have thrown his toys out in the past.

i used it twice, both times it made the supercharged 6 missfire, could have just been my local station having issues but after that stuck to v-power, sometimes sainsbury's higher stuff

Like i said.
Technically you shouldnt use this in an xu10 engine as its 5% ethanol

You should use 97ron or higher though as thats what the book says.
I normally just get 95 though but it runs better on vpower or sainsburys/bp 97 definetly
