afternoon chaps, this morning when i went to start my 6 it has just developed a tap, yesterday i topped the oil up with

10/40 synthetic

i have checked the plugs - they are tight. only had this car for few days and hasnt done this till today

i'm going to put a flush through it then change oil and filter on monday

i'm a big baffeled as to why its just started doing it, i have masses of paper work/history and there is nothing to

say the heads been off or broken cam belt etc etc so

?????

It won't be valves if it just started doing it. Check for damaged plugs. Also, sometimes the injectors can get a bit loud, could it be that? Mines get tappy from the liters when it's done 6k miles. Might just need a service. 10/40 is fine though. Smile

it is almost like the injectors are the cause, i will stick a forte fuel treatment through it see if that helps

car is due to be serviced, last done in Feb and has done approx 5k since so this will be done on monday

plus the cam belt and pump, the box n clutch.........where does it all end lol

Be sure to use a genuine oil filter as they have a non return valve that most of the pattern ones don't. Wink I would also use a genuine Campbell kit as I've had failures with pattern ones.

I've never been given a filter without this and I get whatever ECP classes as their best quality filter. Mann, Bosch and a few more

All the ones I ever got have not had them but a pug one ain't expensive anyways.

It's probably just a lazy lifter, will most likely clear once you've carried out a fluid change. Yes

And as stated, get a Peugeot (Purflux) filter when you do the service. Thumbs up

the more i listen to it the more i think it is a lifter, i put the stethoscope on to cam cover and seems

to be coming from valve gear rather than injectors. Weird how its just started tapping though,

but saying that up until i got the car it was used on a daily basis, since then i have only been moving it

in and out the garage before and after work, so am condifident a good servive will cure it

    finally i have a 6 that fixes itself overnight...erm anyway, as said earlier since i got her ive barely

    driven it, now lastnight when i was trying to pin point the noise it was running for a hour or

    so, today i started it up and the tapping has gone, so oil and filter change tomorrow, hopfully

    it never comes back

    Mine did this, rebuilt the head, sounded good, did a little drive, then left over night and now it taps, think its the lifters though as while the head was off the lifters were dry stored :/ no idea how to easily fix

    My old engine did this sometimes, seemed to be worse when she was hot/ at running temp.
    It wasn't a tapper as in bent valves though.

    Change the lifters for a full good working set. I'm not sure if they can be cleaned and checked but you would have to do all of them Yes

    Jsa, sounds like mine. Sometimes it taps a bit sometimes it smooth as silk. Mines deffo a lifter so it really don't bother me. Just lets me know when to do the oil. LOL

    i got her Mot'd n taxed yesterday, took it for a good run and its not tapped since, btw, engine is very strong to say

    she's coming up to 166k Smile

    As long as i get my clutch/box and timing belt done this week i'll be doing my first trackday at Knockhill this

    coming sunday, this will let me know if theres any life left in it lol

    You can get lifter treatment which you put in with the oil. It's supposed to clean them out and unblock all the oil ways to allow them to work properly once again.
    However, having never had to use it myself I wouldn't know how well it works, but it might be worth a try for you boys suffering with lifter issues on and off?

    Wynns do one but I'm reluctant to use it incase it loosens something up that's better off left alone.

    I know what you mean mate, sometimes these can do more harm than good but this is generally associated with oil flushes etc. Yes

    I've never had a problem with my lifters, but I reckon they might be quite tappy if I ever start the engine again as it's been sat without running for nearly a year already. LOL
