Hi all,
I have Rich's roller bearing front wishbone bushes , love em! Increased road noise, yes, dash rattles, yes.
Wouldn't have em' off.

So a rear beam rebuild is on the cards and I'm wondering about the solid rear beam mounts for road noise.


Is the increase in road noise more when solid rear mounts go on or roller bearings?

I don't think road noise increased much with either, thats more down to tyre choice than anything. High frequency vibration and harshness is slightly increased, but noise is'nt.

Better description probably. When I hit a pothole now it sounds like a small incendiary.
Don't hit potholes anymore...

Going off what I've read thus far, More people seem to complain about the roller bearings more than they do with the solid mounts.
I think you will find almost "Most" on here will have solid mounts.
Not as many seem to have the bushes in comparison but I would say more seem to think they are rough.

I guess it could be, that if you like, the roller bushes would be one of the first parts of the suspension to react to a bump.

In contrast the solid rear mounts are after the Torsion bars and shocks, so you should only really get extra noise rather than harshness ??? As they bolt directly to the shell?

Out of intersted how harsh do the rear mounts make it ride.As iv already pretty back breaking ride .

They make virtually no diffenece to the vertical movement of the suspension so harshness from the rear is more attributable to spring/damper spec and tyre profile and pressures, 55 profiles suck up most stutter bumps with ease, but many are now on 50 ro 45 profile often on bigger wheels too, which is what I think harms ride quality more.

They make next to no noise difference. But, if you are happy with how your 6 handles, don't change them. I gone back to rubber mounts, I prefer them. Many do prefer solid mounts though. Smile

no noise increase but does give you the ability to take roundabouts at 110mph rather than the 90mph with standard mounts

I like the official 306gti6.com rating system of roundabout speed in MPH increase per modification.
There needs to be a FAQ detailing the increase in mphs per modification me thinks Razz

There are three roundabouts on the way to work. That's a 2 minute saving each day!

I can drive as quick on standard mounts, just find it turns in harder on passive mounts. They ain't everyones cup of tea though. Once your used to the "loose" feeling you'll have no problems. Wink

Familiar with the loose feeling, the suspension is 280 000 Km's. 175 000 ish miles.
Gonna try tight and change back if need be.

I didn't notice any increased road noise when I fitted mine. No

However, my car is already pretty noisy with the exhaust system, so it would have been difficult to tell. LOL
I am a huge fan of the solid mounts, they make the car very predictable and as Rikky says roundabout/cornering speeds are better because of this...
Another huge benefit to them is that the LOOS disappears making the rear end of the car much more stable in my opinion. Smile

I still get plenty of LOOS with solid mounts.
My roll cage has helped bring a lot of road noise into the car now, but it gets drowned out with the wind noise and exhaust noise, and my slow decline into total deafness with each journey. LOL

Nah, fookloads left yet, new rear suspension soon.

Might be something to do with it being welded to the shell everywhere Steve LOL
