There is a brown plug on the the thermostat housing that controls the fans on ac engines ? I assume you changed / removed this plug when trying to get the fans to work ? Non ac engines have a different set up. It's controlled by a thermostate switch located in the rad at the top right as you look at the car? Yours will have a blanking plug as you have aircon ? |

bigbadbowen wrote: Yes we know that and as said you need to check that plug for corrosion ? It's nothing to do with rad it's attached to fan cowling ? You will need to remove the front of the car to get to the fan cowling and that plug It helps, but you don't have to you can get to it from underneath the car (on the hdi anyway, it's just fiddly). Aside from a bitron unit the fan principle is the same - HDi had the same twin fans as GTi6 with similar sensor setup as did most of the rest of them. I SAID BEHIND THE RAD ON THE COWLING IN THE FIRST POST FFS!! The first stage of fans is 12V through both so they run at half speed. The second stage is 12V parallel so they both run at full speed. If there is something wrong with the series circuit, you get no fans until stage 2 at which point I bet you've only got one fan running. Check the free stuff first before you start chucking money away on sensors. This is why i sent you the link to the fan plug. I've had two faults with my fans and one was similar to the one you described which was a missing 12V feed to the relays from the body loom. The plug being the second problem which allowed my fan to run all night by itself with the car switched off. ________________________________________ I'm Si btw![]() Night Blue VW Golf GTD Bianca LBSC Rallye - Track/Road Slag Project Thread Sparkling Silver Mini Cooper D - Super Dooper - (The other half's wheels) |
