You only check front imbalance not rear on mot Although the rears may have a similar top output one may achieve this earlier causing uneven breaking. Can't see the rear beam being an issue then you got a similar set up to mine. Got miles solid mounts xsara VTS rear axle with 21mm bars and an Ash hybrid arb and b6/8 which ever they are (yellow & blue). Mine feels unshakable at the rear unles you hit a big bump over a corner then can be sketchy.

Only problem I have is the front is still slightly lower than rear so once on the limit it understeers. Will be getting eibachs soon and possibly changing to b8's on the front as well.

Is it possible the rears are locking under heavy braking?

No pretty sure there not, you have to brake heavy from a
High speed to get it snaking, I think it's something with the suspension doing it, it's always felt a little unstable since I fitted all the parts, but it handles great.

Can you stiffen up the front suspension at all? Sounds like too much weight's being shifted to the front. I had to put a bias valve in and have it almost entirely to the front as the back almost comes off the floor whenever I brake hard.

Only thing I can suggest is find a suitable road where someone can watch you brake hard, see how much rake you're getting; if the car's just lunging forwards you'll never stop smoothly.

the snaking around under heavy braking isnt no where near as bad since getting the welding doing on the chassis legs where the bulkhead meets the floor at the front, mot tester said all that was holding her together was the door pillars and roof.
still does it a bit though.

Even so, as long as it's all ship-shape now then it's good.

How's the progress coming on with the repair?

That's a shame mate, but I do totally understand where you're coming from. Maybe put her away for a year or so until you feel the passion to carry on and complete it. Smile

Are you runing solid beam mounts? I found braking stability was greatly improved by ditching the rubber ones.

That's a very good point Jim. Yes

I found the rear end stability under braking wasn't good and that was when I had standard brakes and standard rear mounts. I changed the mounts to solids though before I upgraded to the 330mm Brembo kit so I didn't experience Brembo braking with the rubber mounts. Food for thought.

Unlikely, they are pretty hefty bits of kit. Yes

Mine have been on there for 5 years and have taken a fair amount of stick with no trouble.
