I went to pick this up yesturday, and after a 13 hour round trip I can say it was well worth it.

Bilsteins
Big valve head

Engine Block:

Cast iron 2.0 block bored to 86.5mm

All new mains thrust and big end shells were replaced.
The correct bore MLS head gasket.
Millers Fully synthetic oil

Head:

Full skim and pressure test
1mm larger inlet valves
Properly ported
"Fast road" Cams

Exhaust:

Manifold is from a s16 that has been reworked and now flows better than a 8branch mi16 one.

Brand new SACHS clutch
306 Gti 6 gearbox (low mileage)
Brand new 1.9 Gti Drive shafts

I seen this for sale. Didt he say it would keep up with a 340bhp evo or similar power? Does it feel like it will?

The plan is just road at the moment as I have got my 306 track car. But that still got abit of work to get done yet. So Yh I may try it out on track.

Not sure about a 340bhp EVO, but it sure goes, had 156mph out of it last and that was plenty fast enough. That's as long as my tom tom didn't lie.

They do go OK on the std 1.9 management but only when std, I did this around 10 years ago now on one and done 3 or 4 since but then the GTi6 engine came and killed off the S16 one, but they are good and with basic tuning mods work better than the 6 engine

Depending on the box you may well have the wrong speedo cog's in there, One of those things people do not think about which will over read by a fair margin

I'd sort the breather system out as that will make a difference on the running

The sumps aren't baffled like the 6 engine are they? Can't quite remember Dunno

If so oil surge on a track could potentially be an issue. Nice motor though Thumbs up

As matt has said oil surge is probably the most common cause of the bottom end dying on the alloy blocks but I don't think it Is as much of a problem on the cast ones like you have.

In my experience the engine you have is one of the stronger pug engines, I have seen a couple with belt failures but nothing like on a 6 motor. Keep it well serviced and you should be all good.

its still a problem on the iron block, mine died from surge/starvation, most will have a single simple baffle but not the smaller one on the oil pump itself.

Then as said above the MI16 engine is pretty reliable so having the baffled sump is a bonus Thumbs up

Yes 160bhp

What is the point of the extra 7bhp of a 6 engine? Surely the MI engine is lighter? Anyone know the advantages/disadvantages between the 2 engines?

its an iron MI, so its not lighter., same block and crank.

gti6 has much better manifolds, longer rods and lighter pistons, a decent chunk more torque, wider band.

Welshpug is right its an iron block, I'm pretty sure there is a ali one aswell. I'm not sure. If that's the 140 bhp version. Correct me if I'm wrong.

yours will be the 155 version being iron.

there's the 160 alloy non cat 1.9 version, and the rare in the UK 1.9 148 bhp lower compression cat version.
