Woohoo Just got home from Norwich after picking up my second 6 Big grin WOW,I forgot how well they pick up speed & how great they handle.

Got a massive grin on my face from the 3 hour drive back,Picked up a Silver phase 3 for £700.Overall its pretty clean just a few niggly bits to sort out.

After some advice as one of the major problems I've got with the car is the two fans aren't kicking in to stop the engine overheating??
My friend has had a quick look, taken the 3 relays out checked them & there fine, also checked theres power going to the fans with a multi meter but they just refuse to work.We are puzzled!

Any suggestions?

Ill add some pics up tomorrow Thumbs up

be a faulty temp sensor maybe? or a bitron unit fecked, try running a direct feed to the fans to see if they work, might be fecked, cant mind how a standard one is wired up again tho

Try unplugging the brown plug on the thermostat with the car running. Fans should come on high after a few seconds as a fail safe.

If they don't, the control unit above the horn needs replacing (common for them to go). I've got one I can sell you for £12 posted.

If one of your fans has stopped working, then neither will work at half speed at 97C as they are wired in series...

As above, disconnect the brown sensor on the thermostat housing with the engine running and see which fans come on (if any).

I guess if neither come on when I disconnect the plug the the whole fan unit is knackered then?

Thanks for all the advice guys

Just be sure to check that both run on half speed before the fast speed fans kick in.

Most likely your bitron uunit under the passenger front wheel arch is goosed then. Yes

It could of course be that BOTH your fans are broken. To test this, put 12v direct to the fans and see if they spin up. If they do and you've already checked the relays then the bitron unit will need replacing. Smile

Try turning them by hand at the point they should come in. This happened to my mate 6. Both fans appeared dead so i let it run up to temp and gave them a nudge and they came alive. Then he bought a 2nd hand fan including cowling and it's been fine ever since.

You can take out the relays behind the grill and bypass them with a short piece of wire, if the fans still don't come on then there probably buggered.

Welcome back Smile

I had a fan that barely moved. Its been a problem on and off. Finally found that the lower connection plug which clips intot eh fan motor was oxidised on the aluminium pins.

Do the fans stop if the aircon pressure is too low or has a leak?

The cooling fans are not affected by the air-con, however when you turn the air-con on the fans will come on IF there is enough gas in the system. If not, neither the air-con or the fans will come on. Wink
