oddly enough i am having this issue on my 406, and i'm led to believe it's the heater fascia / panel itself that's broke

The fans always run though dont they? I thought so anyway? Mine always have run very slowly when you turn the key, its audible as the bearings are knackered

Afaik they do turn all the time, obviously when you set your fan to off it should slow down to almost inaudible. Then get faster the higher you turn the dial.....

I thought the very same thing when I first got mine, apparently they run on very low all the time to aid circulation?

Dont notice mine anymore since I had it out to clean the bearings as the squeak was doing my head in! the smell of grease/wd40 has nearly gone now too Smile

Completely normal mate. The interior blower always runs when the ignition is on, even when the control is set to "off" albeit very slowly and somewhat quietly.

Regard the fan been on. If the car is fitted with A/C does it automatically come on if the outside temp is above a set amount? as this week every time I fire the car up the A/C light comes on and I have to remember to turn it off as the A/C is knackered.

Outside temp has no bearing on the aircon system

On the roof console is a little grill and behind that is a temp sensor. If the temperature in the car is a certain amount higher than the temperature set at the dial, it will put the aircon on. Very annoying as my temp sensor is broken at the moment so even when I have the temp set on cold, occasionally it will come on full blast hot for a few seconds. Not what you want!

its the fan next to the interior light that you hear whirring along.

daicarvideoguy: i think it does if its pointing to the windscreen. it doesnt when its at pointing anywhere else tho, also any time you put it back to windscreen the a/c will come on again.

Yeah that's because aircon is great for de misting. Too many people think aircon is only for the summer but it's great in the winter too.

mines removed but didn't work anyway, there was at least one pipe that needed changing at the minimum.
I did once Have a 306 with working aircon but it was only about 4 years old and it packed in after 6 months or so.
