did a full conversion from 1.6 5door 306 to the gti

everything been swapped

she runs

but she idling at 3,000

replaced idle control valve o e quality

but stays at high revs all the time...

adjusted accelerator cable + the lil adjuster on the throttle body..

but nothing

at first it was idling high then the rev counter stopped working.... replaced fuel pump relay and got rev counter working...

now just stuck on this issue... would a remap sort it?

Inlet manifold, where it joins the cylinder head is a common one. Make sure the bolts are all done up even and tight.

What's the state of play with this engine now, have you swapped the engine for a standard one, rather than the one with aftermarket pistons?

yea took your advice bought new engine running order. bt he said it had been sitting for a while.....

bt yea put it all together started fine took it for a drive next day she started idling high 3,000rpm when you drive it drives ok nt pulling hard bt revs bounce up wen changing gear...

got a straight through system so kinda bt embarrassing sitting at traffic lights at 3,000rpm lol

so dunno.. il have to take inlet off i spose n propa clean it

anything else i should try??

i got a new cam sensor cos got told might be that so just going through process of elimination

It won't be the cam sensor, that is only used whilst starting the engine.

You either have a dodgy ICV or an airleak. At the kind of RPM you're talking, I'm leaning towards airleak.

Clean the icv out 1st befor removing the mani, once you have checked that then move on towards the head looking for an air leak. Check the resonator is not cracked and sealed prop. Did you remove the inlet at any point? Replace the gaskets?

yup put new inlet gasket onit... n new o ring on resonator

it idles fine wen cold wen warmed up then theres a problem.

bt cool yea il check

icv is new thou... how is icv meant to work? valve pushes up and down or screws up n down.

I think it pushes up and down to let in more air when needed to idle correctly, when yours heats up it may be atayin open, take it off and give it a spray up with carb cleaner

Spray some wd40 or carb cleaner around the inlet manifoldand the gasket where it meets the engine, while the car is running.

If it stutters, then you'll have a leak (the wd40 is being sucked in and interfering with the combustion).

Be generous with it.

Put some paper under the boddie if you do that as you will get alot of spray from wd40. I wouldnt use carb cleaner as its flammable Doh

ok will try that tomorrow...

icv wen i put my thumb over pipe n let a lil air in it idles fine... if i block it completly it cuts out..

if i have a leak somewhere around intake are, and i cover throttle whole and icv would i see it suking in elsewhere or dont it work like that

so if both bits covered and it still runs iv got air leak

if it cuts out no air leak??

This sounds correct, therefore I would imagine your ICV is in need of replacement if you can let a small amount of air in and when you let the normal amount of air in it idles too high. Yes

yea what i thought.... but i did get new icv and put it in... bt still same. so wot this new one has fault?

so no air leak?

Unplug the PAS sensor in the fluid line and see what happens. These have been known to cause idling issues in the past.

Failing that, your TPS could be faulty...

I don't think there is an airleak as if you blocked the ICV intake pipe and it cuts out it can't be receiving air from another source. No
You definitely have an electrical issue most likely with a sensor. Yes

kl cn u list possible sensors? and rough price if ya no.... it ran perfect first time i drove it then next day high idling..
def sensor

if i get it plugged in would it tell me which sensor?

right i reckon it sank to do wiv idle control valve

in mrning or starting it up cold its perfect just below 1000
asoon as it warms up 3000 n stays unless in gear
blocking valve a lil me controling how much air goes in in runs sweet

took valve out twisted it a lil n blew in the hole til it was kinda hard to blow... put it bk in n boom ran perfect

i got a new idc so must the new one be faulty or is ecu telling it to open when it shudnt be.

this is sensor i got off ebay below

As stan the man says, have you unplugged the power steering sensor? It's between the rad and the fannymold and is normally coloured blue. Unplugging and replacing this solved my idle problem Yes

I wouldn't be too keen on using that mate, it says it can be used on a 106 Rallye and XSi but the part numbers don't match up on service box...

Genuine ICV should be used...Yes

I know it's more expensive but it will last longer and perform better in the long run. Smile
