You mean the bearing surfaces which the cam journals run on?

If so, then yes they should be in perfect condition, any less than that and they aren't fit for the job. Smile

exactly that stan. Iam gettinAngry about it he thinks because hes re-built it its sound. If re-built with metal in oil then it wont be the muppet. He says take it to local head man but he's only going say the same.

I think what he is looking for clarity on is, that because the carriers are machined to the original head, replacements are not recommended.

Yes, the carriers and head should be kept together. However, if they need to be swapped out, then they should be replaced with new. Yes

Rich had a car in before that had done so much damage too the cam carriers and head it had actually seized the inlet cam and thrown the belt.

The person he bought it off had just had all the head rebuilt and said he lost interest when he thought it had just thrown the belt so it would be interesting to know where people go wrong with them.

I wouldn't be using that by what you are describing, what might not look like much now could turn into a f**ked engine very quickly.

General rule of thumb I've always been told is if you can feel it then it needs work or in this case replacing.

yup the cam ladders are line bored on the head casting and thus should not be replaced with used items, they can't be sourced separately to the head.

wasn't bob's special 235 conversion kit for standard engines was it? LOL
