Hi guys.

Ok firstly I'm posting in general as i am unsure what the problem is as of yet. If admin feel they need to move it then feel free Yes

I wasn't going to post at all as im usually good at finding issues if they occur but today i have had a real good look and still can't find the issue so im now getting pretty p**sed off!

My 6 has developed a whirring noise it can be heard ever so slightly whilst driving in a straight line but becomes more apparent when cornering. If you turn left between 10 an 11 o'clock it occurs and the same if you turn right. The noise doesn't occur all the time and will only be apparent above 20mph.

Due to servicing just recently the car has has new wheel bearings both sides, new discs and pads front and rear new diff seals and gear oil so i have to say im lost as to what it could be. Both ball joints are less than 6 months old an i have checked for movement and there is none. The tracking was recently done when i had new tyres fitted the wheels were also balanced. Both TRES are fine also.

From what i feel by hand the driveshafts seem ok and with the car on axle stands and left to run in first gear the noise has completely gone. Then as soon as you drive it again it comes back. Everything is tight and where it should be.

So am i missing something simples or is there something more sinister at work?

Many thanks Matt.

All mounts are OE and are in a pretty good state of health.

As said the whirring occurs when turning and not all the time and you have to be doing above 20mph.

On that basis i would hazard a hazard a guess that its something that is constantly rotating and when rotating on an angle ( with steering lock applied ) it isn't happy.

How about the PAS pump? Anyone suggested that yet?

PAS pump. As stated above, take the aux belt off and check for play in the pump and the idler on the same belt system. My guess is the pump is beginning to show signs of wear. Wink

bo***cks, won't be that. There's a hydraulic pump on the near left side of the engine bay which runs from the aux belt, take a look at that.
