I am in the process of refurbing the rear beam. I have decided to change both of the bearings as one is gritty and the other has play.

I put the bearing in the press and the the bearing would not come out. I tried several times and in the end the hub distorted.

How much pressure should you have to put on the bearing to remove it? I was under the impression it was about 10 ton?

Also is there somewhere I can buy a hub and bearing set complete?

Also anyone found a good way of getting the back of the bearing of the stud axle?

Thanks

Your changing the wheel bearings I assume? If so it comes as one, ie the bearing and hub come together ready to fit to the stub axle. Thumbs up

you can't remove them on disc and abs drums, if they are worn you need a complete hub.

either drift the inner race off with a chisel, or grind through it with an angle grinder, or knock the stub axle through.

When I bought rear hubs back in 2009 when I did my beam they were £100 ea from Peugeot, I reckon they would have shot up in price now like all their other prices have. Dry

You could try factors or Euro's etc, although if it were me I would go for the Peugeot ones personally as I think they will be better quality. This theory certainly applies to wishbones. Yes

Hope this helps.

As Welshpug says, SKF are good I used to sell them. Yes

And INA make the tensioners for the cambelts etc so they are also a good brand. If you don't want to pay Pug prices these are good alternatives. Wink

QH (quinten hazel) bearings are sometimes re-packaged skf bearings so it's worth a look in the box.
