HI mate, not too hard as you can detach the backbox on its own by undoing the clamp, and taking it off after removing the mounts. Its covered in the Rear Beam Faq as you need to remove the backbox in that.

piece of p**s, will take you about 10 minutes. one bolt holding the backbox clamp to the back of the centre section. undo, and wiggle the box off the 3 rubber mounts. reseal using some form of exhaust putty or paste (unless it's sleeve fitment like a Magnex)

it will have to be cut off and a new one welded on

unless your on about the weld on the actual backbox, if so a few inches further down the pipe there should be a clamp

Blink

There should definitely be a clamp joining the backbox to the centre section. Yes

What make of backbox is it that you had fitted?

Well if you're asking how hard it is to replace a backbox that can't be removed, I think you've answered your own question, would be cheaper to replace the whole thing.

Even that's not hard to do though, it's all nuts & bolts and a tube of paste from Halfords, I did it the other day and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

So, in effect you're telling us that whoever fitted it has now made the backbox and centre sections completely inseparable bar cutting them apart? Unsure

That isn't very good service IMO. No

Yeah I picked up a stainless one from here, mid section and back box for about £90, fitted it in ten minutes. I'd do something similar if I were you.

To be fair, you could go down the new exhaust route/pick one up second hand and you would probably be happy.

However, personally I would take it back to the place that fitted it and complain that they have replaced a 3-piece system with a 2-piece one that makes removing the backbox separately impossible. All companies that make aftermarket exhausts off the shelf for the 306 make them in 3 pieces and even if you go to a custom exhaust place like Powerflow they will tailor an exhaust to your requirements but it will still be a 3-piece system.

Go back whilst the job is still fresh on their books and complain. Yes

*By "3-piece" I am referring to the custom exhaust being split into 2 parts with the CAT/Decat being the third part just in case you were thinking the centre and rearbox should be in 3 parts...

Bear in mind a de-cat is now an MOT fail, so if you are going down that route you'll need to make sure you can easily swap it out for a cat come MOT time.

not in my experience, they have all been single piece from the cat back.

I know from experience that a powerflow system will fit inside a 306 for transportation in one piece as it didnt come apart.

as do Longlife systems.

magnex et al will be two part off the shelf though.
