Hi everyone, I am currently car less and about to get a cheque from the insurance co.

I have always wanted a gti 6 and I am now going to take the plunge.

I have spotted a great looking car, however it has been modified. The guy has done the following:

Lowered on height Adjustable track style coilovers
Uprated metal drop links
Lowered rear torsion bar

I was wondering what the concencus is on the above mods? I like spirited driving, but I don't do track days.
I am hoping for a comfy ride, will this set up suit me?

Thanks!
Ed

Drive it!

The above mods can be easily put back to oe spec if you dont like(sell the coilovers probably pay for the bits to go back to oe spec!)

Go for it - a good un' will put plenty of smiles on your face!

Cheers Dave!

The car is a fair distance from me, hence me asking! I hope it's not a boneshaker. Is this a common mod on the gti? Is the standard set up weak, and it's a case of when the suspension is up for replacement, owners tend to "upgrade" to after market?
I might go and have a look this weekend.... It's exciting! I love buying a new car.

I used to have a 200sx so it will be fun to have lift of oversteer!

A good std set up is good, very good. The purists out there say leave well alone - make sure the suspension components are in good order, decent tyres and brakes and go have some fun!

Maybe find a car with std suspension and try that for a comparison?

All the above mods can be easily "un-done". I'd concentrate on how the rest of the car is, engine condition etc

Lowered on height Adjustable track style coilovers
Uprated metal drop links
Lowered rear torsion bar

That would ring Alarm bells to me, Sounds like cheap coilovers, Std metal droplinks, Rear beam needing a rebuild unless your lucky

But if cheap enough and in good condition and your willing to spend some money on here then have a look

Well I can report the 306 in question sold before I had chance to look.
However I have found another which I will be viewing on Saturday!
The car sounds really great- solid service history, great bodywork etc.
It also had the all important belts and water pump changed 15k ago.
    Wish me luck!

Thanks for all your help and advice on the original post.

There is a buyers guide in the FAQ section - well worth a read.

Good luck and get one bought - you wont regret it(disclaimer - there will be days you hate the french piece of s**tLOL but the good days will hopefully outweigh the badLOL)

    Dave.
