after turbo frog is complete i have a ph 1.5 205 gti needing a new heart, i`m thinking use my now spare gti6 engine and a vts box chuck that in and hire it out for track days. Think its a good idea but can i have some opinions on these please.
It wont be road legal just trailered to track, i think its nice to let more skint people than me an opportunity to track for cheap!!

Will you be providing track insurance for the driver?

I took my 205 out last week and drove within my limits.

If I was in one that I didn't have to worry about, and only roll back on to the trailer I think I'd make the most of tyres and brakes I don't have to pay for.

Go mental in a rental.

For £100 a time with maintenence I think you will be needing to charge more or not bother. Also, I'd hate to hire a car to find the brakes hadn't been bled after the last guy cooked them, or the part worn tyres had little life left for me.

To keep it in tip top I think your pricing or terms and conditions need looking at.

Something to think about anyway.

Obviously your providing the trailer?

    Things to think about
    Fuel
    Tyres won't last 2 days.
Brake discs Wont last long pads either
What if they kill themselves in it
    What if they crash

You would need to take a deposit as well just incase they did crash

You wouldn't have to worry about fuel. Do as hire firms do.

i would do it at their risk, it wouldnt be a proper business, i would just take it to tracks that i would already be attending with my 6, i would take a deposit and i would make sure the car is tip top for every driver. My wife has already said that she would drive it down/trailer it and use it herself if no one wants it. TBh i wouldnt stick 888s on etc and all the parts would be second hand. I just thought if i strip it, put a standard gti6 lump in it on slightly modified brakes and suspension it should be good enough for a "cheap" thrill for some one, but as it stands its only an idea, you could also limit it to like four 15 min sessions for £100 so then you could have a few people turn up to have a go.
One other options is for people to hire it out, again at their own risk with trailer to take it themselves to another track day. Obviously the prices and etc would be more, but i think that more opportunity should be given to others, you may even "convert" people to PUG POWER!! Plus free pr for turbo-frog!!!!

Honestly, wouldn't bother. It's fine saying "it's at your own risk", but if someone decides you've been negligent then you're paying for a lawyer and they're taking you to court.

Say a tyre blows out, and they smash into a wall. They can sue you saying the tyres weren't up to it as you'd only put on cheap tyres. The court might agree. They might cook the brakes on the first corner and break their spine, again you've rented out a "track car" and it's not fit for track - again you're liable.

Unfortunately you can't run a business and just say "it won't be a proper business" to get out of the legislation, if you're charging someone then it's a business of sorts, and people have legal rights.

You can rent out a full-on track Caterham for maybe £200-300 a day, an Atom 300 for £600 a day - is it really worth your while getting up early, servicing a car, trailering a car across the country and sitting there all day while someone canes your tyres for £100 or so? In all honesty I can't believe it'd be worth the wear & tear on your car and trailer. If, as you say, you'd take it to track days you're already at, you're saying that in order for someone to pay you money, you already have to be paying more money to be at the day, whether you fancied going or not. You're talking about people coincidentally being available, close enough and wanting to go to the same trackdays as you.

Nice idea, but I don't think it's as simple as you'd like.

Na in all honesty the idea of making a "quick buck" these days is so out of the window, and as soon as you're the one making the money pretty much every bit of legislation is against you.

I've had so many ideas I've been excited about over the years which, when you do the maths, turn out to be less profitable than just working in McDonalds for the day, where you have no responsibility, aren't accountable for anything and get a free burger.

To be fair, I agree with Owain's points. Yes

People wouldn't care about the car either and will wear it out so much quicker than you would as they will have no mechanical sympathy whatsoever. The only way this could ever make you money was if you were to start a proper business model and run a fleet of them. Yes

Is a burger van to take to track days. Or hire it out to they people to take along.

You get money, and free burgers.
