...Would you guys recommend for my cyclones, Occasional track use (April 28th at castle combe will be first) but mostly road use. Ideally something not too expensive but not really after budget tyres.

I usually buy Toyo T1-R proxes, as they are my current favourite. Just wondering if there is anything better for the money?

Currently i have 50' toyo's on the front and 50' Accelera alpha's on the rear. This setup has stood up well on track before but they are pretty worn now.

IMO 50' looks too small on cyclones for a car that has not been lowered, So looking at stepping up to 55'.

These tyres are only on the car because i came close to selling it last year and didn't fancy forking out for expensive tyres.

I have had Uniroyal Rainsport 2's and they were great but i cant imagine them being ideally suited to track use.

Apologies as i imagine there have been many posts like this before but as the times change so do tyres and prices, Any advice would be great,

Pe2's or eagles for me personally. Smile
Not cheap but worth the extra.
Parada spec 2's are good enough in the dry but not as good in the wet as the other 2 but are cheaper.

Id just buy some cheap tidy part worns and a set of spare wheels because its quite easy to kill a set of tidy tyres on a track day and lose alot of money in doing so.

I've just had this dilemma, i nearly bought PE2's, but at £280 to me @ cost price, i just could not justify them, so i went for kumho KU31's, i've run them on the cossie and my old 205 and love them to bits, and at half the price of mich they're a good buy, and i wouldn't say michelin are twice the tyre in all fairness.

Nankang NSII's used these for a long time now and they stand up very well to big branded tyres that I've used in the past such some of the above named brands.

£50 a corner can't go wrong. I came across them when I was desperate for some part warns and haven't looked back since. Had 2 brand new sets since.

I used ns2's in a 205/40/17 profile and yes, they gripped well and that but they all split on the inside side wall. One even caused a blow out.

Wow scary moment then. Never had issues on the clones with em. As said they grip extremely well and last pretty well to.

I have had parada spec 2's and they are scary how s**te they are on my set up the side walls are too soft IMO pe2's are great but i just can't justify the ££££

Of all the things to skimp on, tyres aren't it in my opinion. They are are your only contact with the road, and will, on occasions be called upon to deal with unpredictable and violent imputs. Surely you want them to able to deliver!

NS2's on my MI16 were real comedy, even the accelera's on the ZX outpefrormed them and they were s**t too!

AVON ZV5's replaced the Nankagns on my 405, such a world of difference, wet grip is bloody good, slightly noisier than a Michelin but cheaper in a 55 by £20 or so.

no but putting £440's worth of tyres on a car that probably isn't worth much more seems nuts Crazy

I agree with what you are saying though, i rarely buy budgets as they just cant cope in the wet most of the time, pretty unpredictable too.

Tell you what though, the acellera alphas i have on the rear of the car are great in the dry, last a really long time too, As soon as it rains though you have to slow down drastically or you WILL have a crash.

Different set ups suite different tyres?

I find the wet grip very good on th NSII'S and very good dry grip. We all will differ in opinion as all set ups are different. The best tyre I have used would be the pe2 as an all rounder but for out right grip there are better tyres out there.

I just think for the price of the NSII's in my case you can't go wrong. They also have a pretty good review.

seems nuts but you're spending thousands on petrol for the thing.....


are the NS2's £15 or something? that's how cheap they'd need to be to be comparable LOL

I've got Acellera's...............on the cossie!
Yes, honestly, they are the only thing that was available int he size i wanted, well, those or bridgestone run flats.
They are not the asymmetric pattern ones, the directional ones, actually grip pretty well!
It would not spin them at Pod, (it would spin dunlop sp sports and kumho's there), i think thats due to them being very soft though.

Mine are honestly very good for a cheapo!
Need to have a rethink of tyres now though, don't think the 205 aaccelera's on the back will put the power down too well now

Personally, I found NS2's a very good all round tyre and fairly cheap too.

I found them very good in the dry on track and very good in the wet on track too. The only thing I did find was they didn't last particularly well. This was in 205/40/17 size though 15" may have different characteristics. Yes

As I said, ns2's gripped well, my only complaint was the slitting but I guess it could have been a bad batch.

Just found these on ebay. Hankook Optimo K406. I believe they are NLA.

Was thinking of getting them and using them on the front for castle combe then forking out for 4 new T1-R's afterwards as i dont want to ruin them as soon as i get them.

Anyone had any experience with hankooks?

I've never personally used Hankooks, but from what I have read they are supposed to be a good tyre, somewhere inbetween performance and budget. Wink

Yeah thats what the review site said, Didnt actually have a review of this model though.

Screw it ill get them, If they suck ill just throw them on the rear. Surely they cant be worse than my acellera's and they performed quite well! LOL
