Chaps, I have a slight problem (not that kind of problem) Anyone who can help (not guess) with whats up please feel free to stick your two penneth in because its getting expensive now.

My intergalactic HDi appears to like a new passenger side front disc around every 3000 miles. Its chewing them for fun. They start off fine and gradually warp. Its had 3 sets of discs now, 2 under warranty and the 3rd time I had to pay for them. Its happening again and seeing as discs are only sold in pairs, it aint cheap.

I have tried changing the type of discs (mintex and Brembo's both have the same problem) also changed the hub (and bearing whilst we were at it) all to no avail. I don't want to go down the swapping calipers route if its just going to continue. could there be some kind of bias imbalance? Im not a technical kind of chap so any help welcome. Anyone had this before? Its just clicked over 230k so im presuming something may be a bit worn somewhere.

Anyone any ideas as to why? Also, its not my driving, never warped a set of discs in my life LOL

Many Thanks,

John

Have you checked to see if the caliper is seized or binding?

Why not just replace the one and save the other for next time? Dunno

Disc not sitting flat on the hub? Corrosion preventing it?

If the brakes arn't binding at all then it's possibly pad deposits building up and not a warped disc at all.

Ok, I'll try that! The warped/badly treated hub theory was what I went with first, hence changing the hub. The discs and hub surfaces have been cleaned so they sit properly. New caliper and see what happens from there on! Didn't think it would have been the though as it doesn't seem to be binding and winds in and out ok. I'll try it though, its doing my head in!

Cheers chaps Smile

Check the sliders as well first. Also be aware that some reconditioned calipers are rubbish. I had 2 rear ones from motor parts direct that were (for want of a better word) s**t.

Calliper.... Had it loads of times before. Seems free to spin when cold but once warm it binds up and caused the disc to overheat. Could also be caused by a partially collapsed brake hose which restricts the fluid and pressure from coming back out the calliper.

Most people also don't realise sitting with your foot on the brake at traffic lights or when stationary in general once the brakes are hot causes hot spots and warps discs.
