Well, there is a big difference. Try rolling along in your car without the engine running and then pressing the brakes. You will find that very little happens and it takes A LOT of effort on the brakes to bring it to a stop.

Why do you want to remove it anyway? Unsure

if you do ditch it, swap to another MC setup and proper pedal box Yes

Please remember guys he is talking about the pump on the end of the cam and not the actual servo.

they don't need to do a lot, but they do enough to run the brake servo.

It will be working fine as i imagine at the moment you are taking a vacuum line from the inlet manifold, im not sure it will work when the manifold is pressurised though? What do petrol turbos normally do in that situation?

Your not using the brakes when the turbo is boosting!!!!!Smile

So inlet is at vacuum like any petrol engine when off throttleWink

The reason they are fitted to diesel engined vehicles is because the inlet on a diesel is not under vacuum it is constantly open to atmospheric pressure so you need a separate pump to create the vacuum. Yes

Having a vacuum pump helps to maintain vacuum along all the use of the engine.
The gti6 has two vacuum sources, wich is better for the servo and master cylinder, letting them do their job only.

In my 306, after installing the big brake kit, i've switch off the inlet manifold vacuum pick up, so that the pedal could be more hard and less sensitive. It was good for me because, with all the vacuum on, braking with control on track conditions, was a bit complicated.
Now i only use the vacuum pump as source, and i'm aproving that.

Pump just makes the servo effect more consistant under all conditions tbh.
