Apparently my catalyst is knackered, so rather than get a budget ebay one, I thought I'd have some fun and get a Jetex sports cat. Will most likely be getting a Jetex catback as the same time as much of the rest of the system is a bit holey.

But I've heard from a scooby boy that adding a sports cat could cause problems on the standard map and cause it to run lean.

I'm sure to get the best performance out of it a remap would be desirable, but that could be done at my convenience.

The idea that the engine might run lean and require an expensive remap to run safely has worried me slightly.

Can anyone shed any light on this situation for 6's/Rallyes? I wouldn't have thought a remap would be a requirement as such, but thought I'd better ask before I go buying anything LOL

Cheers all Thumbs up

No need to remap these things unless you get cams/bodies mate as far as I'm aware.

...is the answer I wanted to hear!

Sounds good to me, and I'm sure having a full decent exhaust will convince me to get a remap sooner or later. Start of a slippery slope and all that haha

Cheers geez

I had a scooby and after reading into them, they get upset if you change the recirculating dump valve for a blow off valve but as got 6 lumps, within reason you can do what you like. People run decats with no issue so I can't imagine a sports cat will do anything untoward.

You won't require a remap for fitting a Sports Cat. No

They get upset if you do anything to them LOL

No need for a remap. It won't gain you anything though Smile

Really? Nothing at all? Shock

Part of the reason I was looking at the Jetex is for the quality of the thing rather than an ebay special, but I would hope for at least some gain. Course, I wouldn't be expecting the 30% I saw claimed somewhere!

Its still a restriction to the exhaust system, the real benefits only start appearing once you have a complete decat. Yes

only if the rest of the system is designed to work with it.

You might see a little at the top of the rev range, but that will be countered by losing a bit of mid range torque. Main thing is you'll benefit more if you tune it more. That goes for a complete decat too.

For the cost i'd personally source a second hand original (for MOT time) and a decat.

Well yes, I wouldn't recommend running the decat on a standard system, although people have done it. A good free-flowing full system alongside it will help dramatically. If you ever deicide to boost the Rallye, you will find it pretty much a necessity.

Okay.

Not so keen on the idea of a decat, being mechanically incompetent I'd end up having to pay to have it swapped in and out at MOT time. Bunging a sports cat on and forgetting about it suits me better in that respect.

And of course, there is always the temptation to go further to justify a sports cat. Boost would for sure be nice...

Cheers for all the feedback.
