My girlfriends mate just bought a car, which was previously owned by a disabled person.

Now, the tax on the car is exempt, due to the disability.

My gf's mate isn't. Other than possible moral complications, would you think she'd be safe to drive around with it?

It'll only ever say the vehicle is taxed in the eyes of the law, so theoretically, it won't matter or be an issue?

basically to cut a long story short for the disabled tax disc to be valid the vehicle must be registered to the disabled person

Yeah, I thought as much. It'll be on her shoulders then. Apparently, the guy who sold her the car had said that if she were stopped, to say she'd just bought the car and hadn't realised.

I'm not really sure how long he were suggesting she did it, like. This story is third hand, via two women

You could always just hack both her legs off, then she wouldn't be breaking the law. Dunno

better to just fork out for tax than to get caught for fraud, think they would look at it the same as if you had the tax disc from a different car in there

They wouldn't consider that a valid reason and you'd be fined.

I think the person who sold the car should have handed in the logbook to change the details, but you would still get the blame when caught

Aye, I know the craic like, but rather than sift through the govt sites using the worst smart phone in existence, I thought I'd just ask here.

My lass had already told her to just get new tax like, but I suspect she won't Thumbs down

I suppose it's her prerogative but it's her that risks the fine if she gets caught out (unlikely though)

Yeah sword is fine. Anyone who thinks it's fine to commit fraud because their free loan hasn't come through definitely deserves something medieval to happen to them.

I guess she is fit, hence your obvious concern, but ignorance isn't a get out of jail free card.

Tough shit. Does she collapse from malnutrition past the 15th of each month also?

She should have bought a cheaper car or not bothered.

    Does she have insurance?

Only if the seller was a dealer.

If purchased privatley its the buyers responsibility to get the taxation class changed at the local DVLA office. Take the V5 along, with an application for a tax disc (form V10) and they will tax the car and send it off to Swansea to get it put back to PLG.

However if you have had the car for some time, they will hit you with a back tax amount, so cough up sooner rather than later.

If stopped by the law (assuming they check) its akin to having no tax at all, and liable for a fine as well.

And like Owain says, pay your way and stop being a pikey freeloader!LOL

HAHA she really isn't fit. I dunno when she will sort it out, not my problem really.

If my girlfriend hadn't told her, she'd never have known
