It's interesting when you're on the motorway and this happens!

I've done a bit of reading and I am unsure about pattern parts and also read that this is common? Is it weldable or is it better to get a new cat?

Cheers,

Brian

You're not wrong I shat myself. The power is definitely feeling like circa 50bhp for the last mile home too at 30mph with the hazards on!

Crazy how much it knocks the power down when the exhaust is blowing, a tiny pinhole in mine around or before the lambda really saps it down and makes it run shit

Well it's currently in the workshop at work and there's a wee Kia Picanto outside instead, haha. It should be weld-able but I've been told it might not last long at all as it's already been welded at the "fat end" of where it's snapped today, you can actually make out the area where it snapped before. Buzz, just absolutely no back-pressure at all...it makes you really appreciate your exhaust system that's for sure!

Looks like this will be a temp. fix, so will be on the look-out for a good used gen pug cat. Thing is...a used one might snap all the same, I'd imagine i'll be looking at £600 for a new gen. pug one?

depends how good the welder is, mine was shot to bits but has lasted several thousand miles since Big grin

dealer would be asking around £600 indeed, though I don't know what their margins are like.

Mei - I'd be cost + 10% for staff but it's still going to be £100's isn't it? The welder does seem good, they are taking everything off and welding it to ensure a proper job...fingers crossed eh. I dunno what yours was like, but the metal where it's broken seems very, very thin indeed, mines is quite a clean break.
